Love this one of the Guildhall, as it really shows its shape.

Taken by Ray Byrne, this image has been around for quite a few years now but it is still utterly fantastic!

Am I alone in thinking that would look better if it was cropped heavily to concentrate on the foreground?

I can see what you mean - the detail and light on those roofs is beautiful by itself. Although the lighting is too bright on them the Gateshead Quays buildings do add context, although they almost look too modern against the beautiful old roofs!

At first I was thinking poor birds, then I saw that family on the pier!

At this point my fingers were killing me, my nose was frozen and I was scared of the Polar Bear lurking nearby so I called it a day and legged it back to the car!

Lol, that brings back very funny memories I had at Tynemouth about a year and a half ago. I'll tell you it another day though, great pictures by the way.

Cracking shots in the snow!

I took a few today actually, think I might finally take the time to start a flickr account and post them up here. Was there an issue recently with flickr photos linking to this website? Was it resolved?

Thanks guys! and Anger, no the problem was because the person who runs the NCC flickr account deleted the photos some days after they were posted on here.

Flickr is the greatest photography site since sliced bread tbh.

Cool - I might just dilute it's greatness with my photos then! I have to admit that I agree with it being a great site though. Any time you need an arty shot of something - anything - there's so many on there.

hollow,

There are a few posts on the Historic Newcastle thread (that were just PHOTOS) that are now completely empty, because of the above.

Posts . . .

47
50
52
53
54
55
56
74
75
and
100

are yours . .

Can I get them deleted by the mods, if that's ok with you?

It would be very time-consuming to "delete" and then "replace" all those specific photos.

Unless you want to?

Cheers.

Feel free to delete them Historian! You're right it would take forever to re link them from the NCC site.

You know what I have yet to see?

Some really great night time shots of the city centre from the sky with the the Quayside a glow, Greys monument all lit up etc etc, as well as the whole of Tyneside perhaps taken from the mouth of the Tyne to capture the entire urban area. If anyone knows of any do let me know!

@ Hollow man, what camera are you using? You have got some great shots! I'm looking at taking photography up as a hobby and any suggestions of an entry level DSLR would be appreciated by anyone. Looking at maybe the Canon 450D or the Nikon D5000. Cost is my main factor, I don't want to go overboard. Any suggestions of good sites to purchase from? I know Jessops is more expensive but they do 6 months interest free!

First of all thanks for the compliments! Secondly, I am a million miles away from being a photgraphy expert so someone else will be better off advising you on DSLR's!!

I use a Canon Powershot SX110 IS. Its kind of an 'inbetween' camera, a step up from your regular compact point and shoots but a step below a proper DSLR. I've had it just over a year now and bought it for about £130 back then so Im sure it'll be cheaper now. Its been a great first camera for me as it is very portable but has loads of features including full manual setting like you'd find on a DSLR. It has 10x optical zoom aswell which is ace.

At somepoint this year I too will be making the leap to a fully fledged DSLR but its quite daunting finding the right one!!!

I have done a bit of research, and partially answering your request above (they are not all "aerial" photos) here are some photos (some 'old', some 'new') of . . .
Newcastle at Night.

Wow Historian!, some really outstanding photos there!!

Those first few are very unique angles that I have never seen before!!, Are the majority from the 80's?

Cheers Hollow, let me know what you end up going for.The Canon 450D looks like the best in my eyes amnd from review sites, I 'm just a little daunted by the complexities of DSLR's (not to mention nthe price!)
