Will this be your first camera?, if so going straight to a DSLR may be like learning to run before you can walk. The Canon 450D does look like an extremely good camera. May I ask what kind of photos you are looking to take? Im sure £300 could find you the camera to suit your needs.

I notice that the user 'Firky' has ' Love Nikon' in his sig so maybe he is the man who knows all about cameras?

yeah noticed that too. Maybe you're right about jumping staright into DSLR's! I don't have a specific syle that I'm going for tbh, will probs just be taking pics of anything that catches my eye. I dont have any skills with a camera but think I have a good 'eye' for shots if that makes sense!?
Will wait and see, and also see how my funds are! Got lots to save for this year so will prob be way down my list on purchases.

Like I say, my camera is perfect for a beginner. I was delighted with what I got for £130, Im sure you would be too. 9mp, 10x optical zoom, manual and pre set settings for when you dont want to mess about with aperture etc. Exceptional bang for the buck. You might want to look into it or something similar as a start.

A mixture of the 70s, 80s and 90s, but there are a few 'old postcards' (as you saw) amongst them, that are from a long time before then! Glad you liked them.

Outstanding photos... they bring back so many memories. Especially this one -

I miss Marks & Spencers! I used to love walking through their foodhall on the way to get the bus back up to Newbiggin by the sea.

Don't forget how excruciatingly long the bus routes to Newbiggin are too. It would drive me insane, every time.

My mother and father live up there. My mother's a Geordie, and after years overseas she wanted to go back to a tiny little town somewhere in the North East. She spent a few months travelling around looking at little towns trying to find the perfect one, and then [strangely enough] she found Newbiggin and fell in love with it. So they sold our apartment in Copenhagen and bought a ridiculously cheap home there, and renovated it. Now she's been there for nearly ten years and thinks of it as heaven on Earth.

I generally love it up there too, the people are amazingly nice. But things like hour-long bus rides and chav kids always asking me 'for a tab' can get a bit much....
