DS Group to invest Rs 875 cr to come up with five hospitality properties
NEW DELHI: Diversified firm Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) plans to invest Rs 875 crore to come up with five properties in the next three years as it aims to expand its hospitality business across the country.
The Noida-based firm, which currently has one five-star property 'Manu Maharani' at Nainital, has already invested around Rs 375 crore on the upcoming five properties. "The total investment marked for the five properties is Rs 875 crore. We have already invested around Rs 375 crore and the remaining will be invested over the next few years," DS Group Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar told reporters. As part of the investment plan, the company is coming up with five star as well as budget properties at Guwahati, Jaipur, Kolkata, and a resort in the vicinity of Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, he added. While the properties at Jaipur and Kolkata would be five- star, the other properties including the ones in Kolkata and Guwahati would cater to budget travellers, Kumar said. "We expect that all the five properties would become functional in the next three years," he said, adding, the company has raised the investment capital through internal accruals. The five hotels would add 874 rooms to the already functional 67 rooms of Manu Maharani. The company also plans to ink management pacts with leading hotel brands, on completion of the project, to run the five properties. The DS Group, well known for its consumer goods brands like Catch and Pass Pass, posted revenues of Rs 2,400 crore in 2012. It has presence in various verticals, including FMCG, hospitality, tobacco, packaging and infrastructure. http://articles.economictimes.indiat...rties-ds-group |

I think DS group is developing first five star hotel in assam, i.e. Radisson Blu in collaboration with GMDA. and i do not think Radisson blu brand comes under budget category.
so this article is misleading. |

![]() Calcutta, Jan. 22: Hospitality group Carlson Rezidor plans to take over the management of two more properties — one each in Calcutta and Guwahati — by the end of 2013. The move is part of the group’s plan to increase the number of hotels under management to over 100 by 2015. The company, which has its headquarters in Belgium, today inaugurated its first 92-room managed property in Calcutta under the Park Plaza brand. City-based Mukti Group developed the property. “We are looking to add two more properties in the eastern region at Hastings (Calcutta) and Guwahati by the end of 2013,” Ronnie Lobo, vice-president, operations (South Asia), Carlson Rezidor, said today during the inauguration of the Calcutta property. While the 100-room Radisson Blu property at Hastings will be developed by the city-based Saraf Group, the 170-room property in Guwahati will be developed by the Dharampal Satyapal group. “Our plan is to be in every capital city of the country and then expand in the emerging B and C towns (smaller towns). We have 63 hotels under management and we have 44 more in the pipeline across different brands,” Lobo said. At present, the company has six brands under its umbrella. They are Radisson, Radisson Blu, Park Plaza, Park Inn, Country Inns and Suites, and Hotel Missoni. http://www.telegraphindia.com/113012...p#.UYyHd3caQlQ |

Eatery chain plans two more outlets
Guwahati, May 19: After making a mark in Mughlai cuisine over the past five years, city-based Red Chilli is planning to spread to other parts of the Northeast and even go national.
“We have four outlets here at present. There are plans to open two more, one on GS Road and the other at Lokhra in the next few months. By year-end, we are going to open an outlet at Lakshminagar in Delhi, for which negotiations are on. Next year, Shillong is also in our scheme of things,” Rehan Ahmed, proprietor of Red Chilli, told The Telegraph. Started in October 2008, Ahmed has invested over Rs 1 crore on the four Red Chilli outlets so far. “We started with the South Sarania (Ulubari) outlet in 2008, which has a restaurant atop a takeaway counter. Subsequently, a takeaway counter at Bharalumukh in 2010 and in 2011, another outlet at Maligaon was opened. In April, we added another outlet at Ambari, where we plan to start a juice corner as well,” he said. Business has its share of risks and Ahmed, too, had a few hiccups in 2011, when he had to close down two outlets at Paltan Bazar and Rehabari. “The outlets had to be closed down as demand in the area was below our expectations,” Ahmed said. Red Chilli is eyeing an annual turnover of Rs 7 crore. “We plan to achieve this target through a strategy of expansion, creation of goodwill, add-on offers and services and a bit of innovation as well,” he said. “There is a plan to start tiffin-delivery services to offices and shops later this month.” Asked about its USP, he said: “We specialise in Mughlai. Mutton leg roast and murgh mussalam are the special dishes at Red Chilli, almost like signature items. Then again, our biryani, rolls and tandoori items are preferred as well.” The four outlets here have a staff of 37 and an average footfall of 150 per day. “We have 13 chefs, most of whom are from outside the state,” the proprietor said. The outlet offers free home delivery for a minimum order of Rs 250. “We also provide catering services for weddings, parties and functions,” Ahmed said. They have no plans to hit the Upper Assam market though. “From whatever research and surveys we have done, the eating-out culture is yet to catch up in places such as Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Our strategy will be to first reach those markets where we think the business will be viable,” the entrepreneur, who left a cable TV network business in 2007, said. The trend of restaurant chains here started with J14 Foods in 1997. It has now become the fastest growing eatery chain in the region with 15 outlets in Guwahati alone. In 2008, it started a second brand — Kolkata Rolls. http://www.telegraphindia.com/113052...y_16889484.jsp |
