Mt Dandenong is on my 'to do' list when next in Melbourne, though getting there will be the big challenge.
Try to get access to a car (or someone with one) because the ride up is very fun, no matter how much of a PT nazi you may be.

You'll be amazed at how long Melbourne's skyline is especially when seen from the south. It has amazed me. The developments at Docklands have extended it significantly.

Took these at Brighton (15km) south of Melbourne in Dec 07

Docklands

The above photo shows is of the Southern Brisbane Suburb of Sunnybank (Brisbane's Chinatown) with the city in the background. The big green area is part of the "green ring" which was set aside in the 1930s and surrounds much of the city.

Photos from www.abovephotography.com.au - click to see & purchase great aerials of SEQ, Adelaide & Cairns.

Was the green ring intended to separate the urban area of the city from what was then rural areas??? It reminds me of the cumberland plan of 1948 for Sydney which also included a green belt around 15-20km from the city to separate the urban from the rural areas, only to be filled in within years.

You even got QE11 stadium in the shot as well.

ahh yes. sunnybank is little asia. dont know why though. its plain aussie suburbia so i dont know what attracted them in the first place.

and QE2 stadium. when will they sell that off. no one uses it anymore. the last time it was used for a major event was for U2 a few years ago. i cant see atheletics drawing a 45,000 crowd so why leave it there?

its not really a ring. its more like a large isolated green expanse. topographically, its not good to build on, but that didnt stop them building the inner western suburbs 150 years ago

in 1930, not much existed beyond this point so maybe that was the true intention, but i couldnt tell you for sure.

That shot is a rippa!!!! That's one of the best shots I have seen of the Gold Coast seriously! Did you take that yourself? Looks like it was took on a surfboard or something, love the way in the foreground you have the wave breaking, then have the skyline sitting there in the background, that looks great!

From Williamstown with a cannon facing Sydney:

From a cruise ship in the Bay:

Crusing on the Yarra:

One someone on here took, think it might have even been a web cam?:

Melbourne on the way:

Things are only going to get better on Melbournes skyline in the next 4 years with a few towers in Docklands and the 300 metre+ monster being built on the Brewery site
