Great Pic. Brisbane looked a little like Adelaide or Parramatta back then.

Same view 30 years later. You can't even see AMP.

Looking at that third pic it looks like Myer used to be over the street in the Queen Adelaide Building.

There are some good books from older years with great photos of Brisbane such as at the Museum of Brisbane in the reading room and at the Brisbane City Council Central Library.

I've tried looking for some of those books in libraries down here but cannot find them, because I'd scan and post them if I could.

It was. As a teenager in the 1980s, I remember going to Myers when it used to be across the other side of Queen Street and Burnett Lane split Myers. I vaguely remember walking through Myers from Queen Street, crossing Burnett Lane and continuing thru Myers until Adelaide Street.

The new Myers across the street opened 1988 I think

I remember the original Myers as well between Queen and Adelaide Sts with the laneway splitting it in two.

They built this bridge to join the upper levels.

If anyone is after old books with great vintage Brisbane photos in them, try the Lifeline Bookfest that happens around the long weekends in January & June.

The past couple of Bookfests I've picked up some great books from the 1970s & 1980s, including books regarding the 1982 Commonwealth Games, Expo 88, Courier Mail anniversery special editions and Refidexs from early 70s.

I have to stop going though, the bookcase is almost falling over ...

Exactly, and another thing is that many of our pre-1880 buildings were simple wooden construction. It just would never survive. Many burnt down, deteriorated, etc. As Melbourne and Sydney were living off the money of the gold rush from 1850s onwards, Brisbane didn't really start to get much money and investment until the 1880s. That gave them a greater chance to get those buildings built at a higher quality, with better materials.

Many of the solid construction buildings of the 1860-1900 period are still around (that list which was given)
