I don't recall this article being posted here when I skimmed through, so here goes:

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -
Quote:
Boeing Co (BA.N) said on Monday it expects Indian airlines to order up to 2,100 new aircraft worth $290 billion over the next 20 years, calling it the highest-ever forecast for Asia's third-largest economy.

The planemaker said it expected single-aisle planes, such as the next generation 737 and 737 Max, to account for the bulk of the new deliveries, with India likely to take 1,780 such planes.

India is one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets, with domestic passenger traffic growing at around 20 percent in the past few years.

"The increasing number of passengers, combined with a strong exchange rate, low fuel prices and high load factor bodes well for India's aviation market, especially for the low-cost carriers," said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president, Asia Pacific and India sales at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

The world's biggest maker of jetliners said it expected passenger growth of about 8 percent in South Asia, dominated by India, over the next 20 years, compared with the world average of about 4.7 percent.

Engine issues in A320 Neo planes, IndiGo cancels 84 flights

MUMBAI: InterGlobe Aviation-run budget carrier IndiGo today cancelled over 80 flights as the airline grounded more Airbus A320 Neo (new engine option) planes due to engine issues.

As many as 13 A320 Neo aircraft are on ground due to the Pratt & Whitney-supplied engine issues, forcing the airline to cancel 84 flights today, sources told PTI.

The frequent grounding of the A320 planes is taking place due to multiple issues, including engine failure, the sources said.

According to the sources, a total of 667 flights were cancelled by IndiGo between June 21 and July 3 this year, with 61 flights cancelled on June 27 alone, due to the grounding of these planes.

IndiGo president and whole-time director Aditya Ghosh had during the post-Q1 earnings call on July 31 said that "regrettably, there have been days when we have had to ground as many as nine A320 Neo (planes) due to lack of spare engines. While we do receive certain compensation from Pratt & Whitney for these groundings, the operational disruptions are quite challenging and we are not happy with that situation."

The sources also said that of the 667 flights cancelled by IndiGo in 13 days, a total of 504 flights were cancelled between June 21 and June 30, while the remaining 163 were cancelled on the first three days of July.

A response to the queries sent to IndiGo on the issue was awaited.

A text message sent to the Director General of Civil Aviation, B S Bhullar, seeking a response to a query whether the DGCA was considering grounding of the entire Airbus A320 Neo fleet with Pratt & Whitney engines, did not yield any response.

GST grounds four IndiGo planes

Low-cost airline IndiGo said on Friday that four of its Airbus A320 planes are grounded as these are stuck at the customs authority over implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“Four of IndiGo’s A320 neo aircraft are grounded due to engines being stuck at customs. We are awaiting certain clarifications on GST,” the airline said in a statement.

This has added to the woes of the airline which has already seen grounding of eight A320neo planes due to engine issues affecting around 60 flights across its domestic network till the end of September this year.

“This is to clarify that our 8 Airbus A320neo planes are grounded (due to engine issues). Our schedule has already planned for the non-availability of these aircraft for July, August and September. The affected passengers have already been accommodated with suitable options,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.

SpiceJet ups bag fee 185%, others may follow

New Delhi: Budget airline SpiceJet Ltd on Friday increased its fee on excess checked-in baggage by as much as 185%, two days after the Delhi high court put aside a government order capping such fee.

SpiceJet has increased its charges to Rs1425 from Rs500 for 5 kg of excess baggage above the free 15 kg currently allowed per passenger, according to the airline’s website.

All private airlines typically follow each other on such pricing as it increase their ancillary revenues.

SpiceJet, which earns 12% of its revenue from such services which includes seat selection, inflight sales among others, declined to comment on the steep increase.

This is going to be AAI's first large Greenfield airport.

Airports Authority pips GMR for Bhogapuram project

Quote:
The Airports Authority of India has pipped GMR in bagging the mandate for developing the greenfield Bhogapuram airport in Andhra Pradesh.

“In the financial bids opened on Monday, AAI offered a revenue share of 30.2 per cent as against GMR’s 21.6 per cent, thereby managing to outbid GMR for development of the airport,” Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary Industries, Energy and Infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh Government told BusinessLine.

“The empowered group of secretaries will present the details of the financial bids and respective offers made by AAI and GMR. It is for the State Government and Cabinet to finalise the offer,” he said.

The entire purpose of PPP is defeated if a PSU is allowed to bid. The success of PPP lies in leveraging private sector efficiency while being tightly regulated or monitored by government through a contract

Why this drama of bidding when it can be directly assigned to AAI. Of course AAI does not have the pressure to make profits and offer any kind of revenue share, unlike a private player.
