It is not fair to underestimate the new comer. Many other business persons started hotel business in TN and succeeded. The transport business owner succedded in Trichy and opened hotel in and around Trichy.

Also for business reasons they advertise like first 4 star hotel in Salem. If it is false, then the other 2 if they are 4 star can inform people or file a suit. Our motto is welcome the new one and hope for the best.

Regarding the name it is no harm indicating their brand name and they are also doing a business openly and we people patronising well and only from those profits they opened this hotel. Hence any business is good and please come out of only English names are good but not tamil names.

Mumbai, May 7:
Ginger Hotels, run by Roots Corporation Ltd (a unit of Indian Hotels Co. Ltd), is looking to tap the wedding market in the South.

The budget segment hotel chain is keen to get into management contract with family-run businesses to scale up room inventory in regions such as Guruvayur in Kerala.

Explaining the game plan, P.K. Mohankumar, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Ginger hotel chain, said, “The huge wedding market is a segment that is of great interest for us. We are looking at places such as Guruvayur. There are many big wedding halls, but no accompanying facility for lodging, especially in the branded hotel category. In many of these places, families own large pieces of land. But they don’t have the bandwidth to design and architect a hotel.”

Launched in 2004, Ginger catered to an under-served domestic market for cheap, branded accommodation and started with room rates priced near Rs 1,000. Spiralling land cost and slow process for approvals and permits in the hospitality sector forced the hotel chain to increase their average room rates to Rs 2,000.

To cut costs, the hotel chain has now tweaked its business strategy for future expansion plans.

“We are exploring various options – from Greenfield to Brownfield and also conversion of existing operations and management contract route. We are also look at the franchise option,” said Mohankumar.

The company has got responses, mostly from Mumbai and Bangalore and from tier-1 cities in South such as Trichy, Salem, Mysore, Mangalore, he added. “In the North, places such as Chandigarh and Amritsar and new emerging towns such as Kota will be our focus,” he said.

Branded supply pie

According to an industry survey by global hotel consultancy and valuation specialist HVS, the mid-market and budget segment are expected to witness the highest increase in the branded supply pie. This segment was 50 per cent of the branded hotels category under construction in 2012, the HVS report said. The estimated requirement in the budget and economy segment is about 50,000 to 70,000 rooms.

“India is all about mid-market, in terms of hotels and travel. Today, businesses are diminishing. Occupancy levels are coming down as competition gets tougher. So hoteliers are in a transition stage currently,” Mohankumar said

IMHO, Salem Castle the only 3-star hotel for long time can down grade itself to budget hotel to tie up with Ginger. They have lot of rooms.. being in prime location they can thrive in business.

The budget hotels in around central bus stand make very good business and have very good occupancy round the year.

Don't go to other cities, we have enough right now. we are pointing out the way how they are going to promote in the new era, In recent years Cheneys gateway, salem southgate, Salem castle, windsor castle &bothers too many failed to attract due to lack of professionalism...
Recently my friend had a chance to visit GRT due to their presence in web to promote their business ( note : No Yercaud visit ,Just pass through Salem from Erode)

No English names welcome here, just catchy names are welcome, other than that nothing..

So it may not famous in their old business now they may get famous in their new hotel business who knows. Phase 3 of FM radio auction cleared; 839 channels to go on air

New Delhi, May 1:

The Cabinet has cleared the way for as many as 839 new FM radio channels to go on air in nearly 300 cities later this year.

These channels are to be awarded in the third phase of expansion of FM Radio, the guidelines for which were approved at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The third round of expansion has been delayed for nearly two years, as the telecom scam cast a cloud over the process of allocation of natural resources such as radio spectrum.

The Cabinet accepted the recommendations of an Empowered Group of Ministries on changes to be followed in the auction process. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry expects to rake in around Rs 1,532 crore from the auction of new radio channels. The Ministry expects to complete the auctions this financial year.

It has also been decided to charge a fee from existing operators migrating from Phase II to Phase III. The migration fee will be decided after consultation with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The Cabinet had given its nod to conduct the auction of 839 channels in 294 cities in March last year, which will extend FM radio coverage to all cities with over 1 lakh population.

Subsequently, TRAI recommended auctioning of additional frequency to be opened up by reducing the inter-channel spacing. The Cabinet has now said that additional channels that will be available by reducing the inter-channel spacing to 400 kHz could be considered after feasibility studies are completed.

Salem could not get private FM in the earlier FM expansion as they were auctioned only in the towns/cities which had Al India Radio Infrastructure like AIR Tower.

The news item indicates the beginning of the E auction any time now and the Private FM channels likely to be in air by the later part of this year.
