Have just walked here this morning.
They MUST NOT CUT THOSE TREES down.
They are so beautiful.
It is so important to keep trees of significance, to see trees in heavily built up areas, breaking up the heaviness of the structures nearby. The building planned for that site is unsympathetic and destructive of the amenity and serenity in an otherwise very busy area.
The building should be set back and celebrate and incorporate the existing site benefits. Anything else would be site vandalism.

I agree

This design has nowhere near the character of the original.
I would like it to be a landmark site also.

Viclocal: Cul was referring to Paragon aka Link Zetland which is located on Link Road @ Epsom Road & Sthn X Drive; is that also what you are referring to or to Divercity 2 Sam Sing Street?

Divercity 2 Sam Sing Street will not affect the trees but the rationalising of the log jam, dogleg intersection of Bourke with Lachlan & McEvoy will take out a lot of the trees.
I wish they'd leave that splendid fig tree on a small island but road builders consider themselves 'practical, no nonsense' people and to them that tree is in the way.
All maps of the area show this planned rationalisation to one instead of two intersections, and they have done so for a very long time. Given the response of TfNSW and all its variously named predecessors, to the problems associated with the intersection, I doubt it will happen any time soon.

Now that you mention it:

PARAGON
Link Road/Epsom Road/Southern Cross Drive
Zetland

Pix taken today of the Green Square Model at THH.

View from the east with Sthn X Drive/Sth Dowling Street running across the bottom of the pic.
On the left is Epsom Road going back into the pic.
On the right is the future Zetland Avenue going back into the pic and across Epsom Park to the G S Town Centre.
Link Road links diagonally from Sthn X Drive to Epsom Road.
On the right is the all but completed 22 storey Vertex on Defries Avenue, Victoria Park.

Moving in for more detail.

View north from Rosebery with Victoria Park in the background and Sthn X Drive on the right.

The grey colouring indicates the project has been approved - for some time now - so we hope that the recent activity on the site is actual construction preparation and not just another false alarm.

I went for a walk around Zetland today and took similar photos to Viclocal (album: Zetland Photos). I haven't walked around that area for a while, but I was completely blown away by the sheer number of apartment buildings in the area!

Here are a couple of panoramas that I took around the Viking by Crown building:
