None of that is going to happen soon or before the new retail quarter is built.

I agree there has been a lot of criticism of the council on here recently. However the council are also aware that their reputation with the local business community is at an all time low. I think that feeling has been reflected fairly well on here, without going OTT like on SF. There are two things the council can do to help repair this damage, get things moving again on the NRQ and grant Ikea permission. There is not much that can be done to salvage the Next Home store as the council has made it quite clear it opposes the scheme and the parking charges, whilst unpopular, are a sideshow when compared to the NRQ and Ikea.
A good post, I like this new pragmatic Larven.

The council cannot move on their position. I believe the Planning Inspector will rule in favour of British Land whilst imposing strict conditions on the type of goods to be sold.

There's absolutely no chance that the council will change their stance. They can clearly show that there is land available at Moorfoot of a similar size (or larger if including the Deacon House block) in a designated retail area. They're not going to persuade Next to develop there if the appeal is turned down, though - Next want the store at Meadowhall. Location, location, location.

So this is a win for next from what I understand here.

The industry insiders here won't make such a claim. Never count your chickens in planning.
