NEWS Corp Australia’s groundbreaking master plan for its long-term Bowen Hills home is set to be released to the market.

The Millennium Square project, which is being led by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Real Estate, will launch the media group’s Queensland operations well into the 21st century.

News Corp Australia will this month release its plans as it starts the process to secure a development partner for the two-stage “city within a city” precinct on its 4ha inner Brisbane site.

In the Sunday paper today there is a article about the need to open up underused parts of Brisbane to redevelopment. There's a couple of renders of a tall tower over Central Station that I haven't seen on here before.

I'll try and get some pics

The dental school site?

Also, what's the headline for the article?

Such a backwards approach IMO. It's not the development that creates the jobs, it's the demand that creates the need for the development that creates the jobs.

These aren't actual proposals, this is a report by Urbis which has identified what they consider to be surplus government land which would benefit from development. I don't know much about Urbis, what purpose does this serve for them to release this report, are they supported by construction unions and bodies and are just trying to get more development?

The mock up of the tower above Central Station looks like humans left earth hundreds of years ago and nature has reclaimed

That's my opinion of just about all the towers that have way too much foliage all over them. Reminds me of those old temples in Malaysia/Asia/Indonesia that have trees growing all over them.

Some of these ‘green walls’ are a ticking time bomb of ugliness for the city, if developers are going to include them, then it needs to be accompanied with a management plan going forward. There’s a few token ‘green walls’ which haven’t turned out anything like they were initially proposed, which means the ugly blank concrete wall it was supposed to hide is now obvious to everyone.

Bigger versions of those pics below.

BTW guys, if you ever want to upsize a Courier-Mail or Gold Coast Bulletin picture, just change the number at the end of the URL for the image, news.com.au sites tend to always upload print resolution versions so you get access to new HD versions of most stuff.

By default it says 650, but you can change it to:

width=1024
width=2048

I think 2048 is a good size. Other resolutions won't work, sometimes 4096 works.

and it's not like they are "new" problems either. look up some photos of what the hilton hotel was supposed to look like when it was originally built....

If memory serves, it was earmarked for a Masters store, and the property was one of those sold to the consortium of large format retailers that took most of the old Masters sites.
