is the parking shown under the building, or between the hotel and the arena? if it's a surface lot between, thumbs down. I couldn't tell by building elevations.

There's a surface lot between the hotel and the arena but it's going to be developed at a later time. There's no parking actually in the hotel building.

One day when the surface lot is developed the hotel's parking will be shifted to other structures.

I've been saying it for a while. Marriott family, it looks like a W, it's in W's star-range and W is just a good fit for the area and what they're going for with WST.
I kinda doubt it just because it would be an unusually large W. I would guess that at 500 rooms it would one of if not THE largest for the chain which Marriott considers one of its luxury brands.

Also not sure a convention hotel fits their brand identity.

I don't see much of a branding issue. Also note, this hotel is directly connected to the Marriott Waterside which means the Marriott and whatever this hotel ends up being will in essence be sharing the convention part of the new hotel.

Anyway, W was just a guess and it seems like a fit to me. Looking at some of their other flags, I'm not sure what other flags would fit. Everything else isn't a 4 star hotel, is already in the area or just isn't anywhere near the scale of this hotel:

JW Marriott is their 5 star brand other than Ritz.

Oh that means site prep and what not . Close to a construction start. I'm so sure Tampa's 2021 Superbowl is impacting this project to be done in time. Idk if the 5 star is in this first phase.

One thing I don't like about this building is it supports the convention center. To me, that concrete mess, urban-life sapping, waterfront view-blocking, entrance to downtown darkening, tired old 80's style POS should be torn down. Replace it with a new convention center somewhere that doesn't ruin downtown. Open up the land to high rise development and a new street grid to add life to the neighborhood.

Do you really think there is a chance of the CC being torn down? I'm not totally disagreeing with your point though. I'd rather see something else there that everyone can enjoy and make use of.

You're more likely to see the CC renovated with an emphasis on glass than see the entire thing come down.

The place definitely needs to cut down on the steps, though. THAT could have better land use. Perhaps a new concourse at street level that could be used for community events.

No, I don't really think it would be torn down. I was more just fantasizing about changing that area of downtown. I was thinking of the cost of replacing it against the total investment coming in for Water St, and it's probably a small fraction in the scheme of things. Water St is big. I was thinking big.

Maybe for Vinik’s Grand Finale Phase iv, his team works out a deal to relocate the flour mill site expanding SPP their, relocating and then incorporating the new TCC into SPP’s Grand Central Parks setting at the flour mill site, with room to grow in the CBD opening up the current TCC site for SPP’s final phase, SPP Waterfront Promenade to include their tallest towers backing away from the water into their downtown core lots by USF with parks and open access to the waterfront for the public.
Pipe dream but thinking big as well! Price balloons to 5B overall funded privately but becoming THE world renowned redevelopment model. One can dream.

IMO the convention center was outdated from the beginning, it's from the 90s and the design looks like late 70s, furthermore, there's no room for an expansion, like they did in Orlando or San Diego. In one side you have the crosstown and in the other the river....
But anyway, aren't we still paying for the bonds to finance the construction?
