This is exciting!

By 2020, Water Street could have quite the Hotel Row. Between the Homewood Suites, Drury Plaza, plus the hotel across from the Public Market and the rumored Kimpton Tower in the Park East within all within less than a mile.

I'll take periodic pictures from the current tower once the demolition begins

I'm just happy a new, all glass, building is coming. I love those reflections off of the NML so I hope we get a similar effect w/this one too. It may even be possible to get some reflections of city hall off this beauty once it's done; that would be a cool pic; old/new side by side basically.

Honestly I think this is a really great project. It's not that the design is spectacular, but I think it will modernize a very central block in the middle of downtown that could definitely use a facelift. A new glassy tower across from City Hall, plus conversion of the old building, will change the whole area. It also has the possibility of stitching together corridors from the lake to the nml towers to City Hall and then South to Wisconsin Ave and the third Ward.

Irgens preps to start construction on BMO Harris office tower

Moderator, the status of this project could be changed to "PREP"

"Construction work begins this month for the next downtown Milwaukee office high-rise after developer Irgens bought two buildings from BMO Harris Bank.

Irgens will demolish the parking structure at North Water and East Wells streets to clear land for the 25-story BMO Harris Financial Center . . . . "

Pfffttttttttt.........they're in "phase II" now and it should be complete Oct/Nov. think there are 4 phases? rumblings now are that after II is complete they might delay further phases = because building sinking/condition isn't as bad as previously thought the NW corner(completed) was in worst shape

Utility movement is underway around the building, the permanent planters out front are being removed, and other preparatory work is gathering speed!

This is going to be getting underway in earnest in October, right? Is that timeline still on?

Yes. There's already plenty of prep work going on around the site. The old parking garage is supposed to come down starting in October.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to give an update. I was at BMO this afternoon to get that new Bucks card and they have flyers everywhere saying that the parking garage will permanently close this Friday, October 20th. Hopefully they'll start demolishing it soon after.

This is the Best thing that could’ve happened. Getting rid of one of those huge parking garages.! This is a great project, because that garage is plain ugly.

TBH I've found the BMO Harris building itself to be rather ugly and monolithic as well. I'm hoping that Irgens majorly revamps the exterior of the building when they remodel it into new Class A/hotel/condos/apartments/whatever is gonna wind up going there.

I'm probably in the minority here and know the building will likely be refaced, but I like the office tower as is. Growing up I always thought it was like Milwaukee's version of the WTC towers with the strong vertical bands between windows and being unapologetically cold and corporate in style.

I'm hoping Steely Dan has my back on this one lol.

I agree, but that parking deck is hideous. Maybe it's the scale...?
