Turkey to open college for skilled trades

Somalia: Turkey to open college for skilled trades

9 Apr 9, 2012 - 8:59:30 AM

GAROWE, Somalia Apr 9 2012 (Garowe Online) - The Turkish government has announced that it will open colleges for skilled trades in Puntland in the recent future, Radio Garowe reports.

The announcement comes after Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole who addressed 200 students in Puntland State University (PSU) on Saturday advised the youth to open their eyes to all fields of education even skilled trades. The announcement of the Turkish government to open colleges in Puntland comes shortly after an arrival by Dr. Kani Torun the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia.

The Turkish government has promised to bring supplies needed to run the colleges and also promised to cover teachers' salaries. Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) who visited Puntland last month will help build the colleges.

Although many international organizations have opened training centers in Puntland to train students in the skilled trades sector, a college in the field has yet to be constructed.

Last year in Galkayo the capital of Mudug region, students of Mudug Vocational Training Center built a limousine from spare parts and materials collected from junkyards. The project that took almost a year and half was completed late last year. - Source
