As has been discussed in the last few days major things are starting to happen in the Pendleton area, both at ground level, and tower block wise...

Dozens of 1960/70`s council housed are now due for demolition in the next few weeks...

this area was cleared quite a while ago and construction will start shortly...

The much talked about "orchard" blocks await demolition these have been empty for several years

and out of the blue several other blocks are now being given another face lift...

what has possesed them to go for a deep green gladding am not sure..ah well..I will reserve judgement until completed...

More photographs tp follow as work continues.

What deep green cladding Wingy? I can only see the insulation on that corner/end, I'm guessing cladding/render will cover that?

Hope so - Thought they would inject insulation, maybe there is no cavity space?

Nice pics of my neck of the woods Wingy

There is no cavity. Rock Wool is being applied externally (the 'Deep Green cladding'), then a render will be applied over the top of that at a later stage. I live in one of the two buildings!

Looking at the way its being applied I would say yes it is the insulation (hope so as its not the most attractive of colours), then as mentioned cladding will be applied on top of this, but as yet I have seen no renders or plans for this particular project.

Just look at the planning application(s):

Apple, Peach, Pear and Fitzwarren Court are for demolition, the rest is for refurbishment as per the out of date schedule:

This can start when the PFI contract is finally signed, a delegation went to see Eric Pickles last week:

Pendleton residents head to Commons to push for housing scheme
Then outstanding are for external refurbishment, various tower blocks in fragmented ownership, depending on your views, the most urgent one is according me Briar Hill Court (Salford Shopping City); Salix Homes Magnolia, Mulberry and Sycamore Courts; Salix Homes / Windsor Albion TMO Albion Towers; Guinness Northern Counties Cherry Tree Court and the two student blocks John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts, and then we have various other tower blocks not in Pendleton

Oooooo, Hazel Blears, she always conjures up an image of a squirrel darting up and through the trees like a self appointed crusader.

Does anyone know whats happening to Matthias Court, the company that is taking down out scaffolding are now putting it up around the student block. Is it gonna be closing down this year?

Just looking at the houses in Pendleton that are to be demolished, I bet they looked superb,on the original renders,in fact not unlike the new ones that are proposed. Still it will be a nice little earner for some developer, and in 40 years time we will be back to square one.

Been out driving today, sorry for the terrible pictures but I figured it was time for an update.

"Vimto" apartments, 6 floors, Chapel St

Is there a thread for this?

The hoardings are already up around the site, ready to begin construction

The apartment block you can see in the background here is 8 floors, so that should give a sense of scale as to how 'tall' this will be;

Chapel St Student Accommodation, 5 floors

This is the building close to the cathedral - not sure if it already has a name or thread?

Nothing seems to have happened here the site has remained like this with the hoardings around for some time now;

Lastly, it looks as though this building on Chapel St will be demolished - good riddance! Gating and "Warning" signs have gone up all around the site;

Again sorry for the terrible quality - awful day weather wise all over today!

It also looks as though something is being built here, in front of the Islington estate. I've not heard anything about it, and it isn't the Vimto development? Looks as though it's about to start construction anyway;

Sorry Volde, think that's one of the construction compounds for the tower-block refurbs you can see in your picture. Could be wrong but can't think of anything else going on apart from the student block and Vimto Gardens - good updates there by the way, thanks!

Understandable, my bad!

You can see why I got excited though

This whole area is being uplifted recently; the student block, Vimto, Brown Brother's Hotel; Sillivan Way beavering on into its Second Phase and then last week's announcement of a 7 storey hotel on the river
