Excellent images and a million thanks for posting them. My parents used to live at Mouson & Niriidon corner when there were only mansions there.

I cannot say anything other than that we all like this aura of Cannes and Nice into Athens. One of the best suburbs in Europe, period.

This one is a collage of three images from the Olympic Taekwondo Stadium, now used as a convention centre

Old Image of the taekwondo stadium taken from the "Prophitis Ilias Hill" in Piraeus

Classical Image of the blocks of flats in Palaion phaleron, many being from 8 to 10-storey tall

At the neighbourhood of "Averof" battleship-museum

Plus, I got lazy recently. I should have visited this Flisvos marina, long ago. Plus, I have a very good friend of mine that she lived in Davari Square (now married and lives in Voula) and her mother that lives in the vicinity of Panagitsa, one of the best churches in the Athens Area.

People do not realize how beautiful these coastal suburbs are. World class, with the only problem being the lack of significant venues instead of the insanely beautiful cafeterias and night clubs. However, the transformation of Flisvos marina, the trokadero, the construction of the national library, the Opera (Lyriki skini), and other smaller cultural venues in the area of the old horse-racing tracks, as well as thwe renovation of the Taekwondo stadium into one of the best conference and congress hall in Europe, all that will contribute to even more upgrading the area which, mark my words - will be one of the best in Europe if not the world.

I mean, how many places are in the world where can you leave your luxury apartment and go for a swim within a walking distance from your house?

OK more Phaleron pictures, I have a very nice picture about this suburb because of my parents as well as my frequent visits there.

First of all, many people do not know that many beautiful office buildings are
"lost" in some streets in Palaion Phaleron, such as the ones on Zephyrou street, opposite the area of the Taekwondo stadium:
(Photos taken in 2002 with analog camera and scanned from prints)

Now back to the discussion on neighborhoods: Here are some pictures I took in 2004, on the opening day of the tram and I believe that you need to see them.

Here is the block that Krainer presented in one of its pictures:

OK, this is Niriidon street, my parents lived on the house that was on the first parallel road to the coastal Avenue. Needless to say that all these houses at the time were villas...
Watch the floor count of the second block from the main avenue. 10 floors (ground + 8 + top floor, what we call in Greek retiree, a word borrowed from the French).

...and speaking about villas, this is just one that was saved from the invasion of the 10-storey blocks (I mean, really, the average height there is unusual for Athens anyway)

cloze-up

Unfortunately, most of these gems were demolished to be replaced by unusually tall blocks. If I am correct, the last and one of the best ever, looking like a castle with two turrets if I remember correctly, still remains opposite the entrance of the Flisvos Marina :.

Very nice!
The modern buildings look nice and very southern Euro in style!
What a nice little house that has been preserved.
