Samsung seeks to increase Beni Suef factory’s production to 7.2m units by 2017 - LINK

Total exports of the Samsung factory in Beni Suef to produce TVs and PCs were $780m in 2014 and $790m over 2015, said deputy director of the factory Ahmed Zuhair.

Zuhair said the factory products cover the countries of the Middle East, North Africa, and some African countries as well as Spain, asserting that they plan to cover the whole of Europe in the upcoming period.

The Beni Suef factory has the latest technological means, making it the second best factory among Samsung’s world series of factories.

The factory production was 500,000 units during its first year in 2013, compared to 2.8m units in 2014, and 2.9m units in 2015. He expects the production volume to reach 6.1m units in 2016 and 7.2m units over 2017.

Zuhair said the factory’s investment was $270m in 2016 and the factory will expand as its first stage was built on only one third of the land allocated for the factory.

Egypt to construct 1,000 MW solar power station, solar panels factory with $3.3bn of Chinese funding

China will transfer technology required for manufacturing solar energy panels

Egypt is to construct a 1,000 MW solar power station and a solar panels factory that will be implemented in two stages, 500 MW each. According to the agreement, it is expected that China will fund the establishment of the station and the factory with $3.3bn in concessional financing.

A meeting was held on Tuesday between the Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, Minister of Military Production Mohamad Al-Assar, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, to discuss the recent developments related to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed on 27 July to construct the solar power station with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a solar panels factory.

The Ministry of Military Production announced earlier in May during the Third Annual Energy Conference that it is evaluating the possibility of constructing a factory to manufacture solar panels in Egypt.

This project would complement the MoU signed by the Ministry of International Cooperation with the Ministry of Military Production and China to exchange experiences, help local production, and the transfer of technology and knowledge required to manufacture and produce solar energy from silicon panels.

Nasr stressed that the latest negotiations with China come in the framework of cooperation between the three ministries to support the energy sector by diversifying sources of energy and increasing the usage of renewable energy.

However, many solar companies had disputes with the Ministry of Electricity over the agreement for purchasing solar energy according to the feed-in-tariff system, which led to the withdrawal of many solar energy companies from the projects, such as Cairo Solar, Scatec Solar, and EDF.

Is this the first solar panel factory in the country? That would mean it will be affordable for housing projects to purchase solar panels instead of imported generators and batteries.

Good project. Local production of these panels will encourage local buyers too.

In all seriousness, WTF is up with the Android on that thing? Why would they go with Android Jelly Bean (4.3) when Android Nougat (7.0) is out? Android is free and opensource so it's not like they're paying for a license. The phone is already outdated and won't be suited to download 30% of apps in the app store. I get it's their first go on a phone but the OS is the easiest thing to implement. The Hardware isn't bad. Hopefully, we see them to the same standard as OnePlus, they make amazing phones.

Their ad says it uses Android Nougat 7.0 though, where does it say 4.3?

The video with Amer Dieb that plays after the second one shows him playing around with the phone. It clearly had Jelly Bean. Maybe that was just a prototype?

I suppose that could be it. Their older models, Diamond, Mega and Pro 4 are running Android 6.0 (http://sico.com.eg/sico-smartphone-diamond/) so it makes no sense for this one to be using 4.3.

Egypt to build 4,000 new factories led by Armed Forces

Source

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stated yesterday that his country is seeking to build 4,000 factories for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The timeline for this is “six months to a year at the most”. The project will be led by the Armed Forces.

In his speech at the opening of several development projects in the city of 10th of Ramadan, Al-Sisi did not mention when the construction would begin, the costs, or who is funding the project.

The Egyptian president also noted that the Housing Ministry, in cooperation with the Military Engineering Authority, will carry out the project which will create 40,000 jobs.

Led by the armed forces... Does the government not possess the capability to execute the project?

Well, the armed forces do own Engineering, Contractors, and Architecture firms. Guess it's cheaper to let them build 4,000 factories than to hire an outside source like Orascom.

No, the army sub-contracts private firms, as in the case of the new capital. They only oversee projects, they don't build themselves. The Nativity of Christ Cathedral was built by Orascom and overseen by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority for example.

I always assumed they owned civilian firms. A lot of the articles we post mention construction being undertaken by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority as well.

Example

They do own firms, they own factories for sure. But when it comes to construction they always oversee private sub-contractors. Maybe some of the sub-contractors are linked to them but more often than not it tends to be regular companies like Arab Contractors, Orascom etc. Look at the National Road Project for example, it is entirely built by private firms. Most of the project is overseen by either the Armed Forces Engineering Authority or the Ministry of Transport.
