Peugeot may choose Chittoor to set up factory

Peugeot may choose Chittoor to set up factory
B Krishna Mohan / Hyderabad January 05, 2011, 1:37 IST

There are indications that French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen has chosen the Sri City Special Economic Zone near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh for its assembly and manufacturing facility. However, a formal announcement is yet to be made, either by the company or the state government. Company officials had a long meeting with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today.

Government officials said the company was likely to invest about Rs 2,000 crore during the first phase of the project. In all, it could be Rs 7,000-10,000 crore. This was the second visit of the company’s officials in two. They earlier surveyed a location in Rangareddy district, close to this city.

A large number of ancillary units are to come up in the vicinity of the car plant, if the proposal goes through. The company had earlier sought many incentives, including an interest-free loan but the government asked for a revised proposal.

The facility in question is likely to have a dye manufacturing facility for car components, a research and development team for design, a body-building shop, new technologies for a centrally-controlled room for regular functioning and a testing unit.

The company had exited from a joint venture with Premier Auto Ltd after a lockout at its earlier facility near Mumbai.

This will be the second major project in Chittoor after the BHEL-NTPC joint venture to make power plant equipment. The district is closer to the Krishnapatnam port in Nellore district for exports and also to Chennai port in Tamil Nadu.

Amara Raja targets $2 bn turnover by 2015
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad February 22, 2011, 0:21 IST

The Amara Raja group has lined up a Rs 200-220 crore capital expenditure plan to achieve its target of $2-billion (Rs 9,070 crore) turnover by 2015, a four-fold increase from the Rs 2,500 crore now. It has also set a target of achieving $25 billion turnover by 2025.

Unveiling its new corporate logo here to mark the silver jubilee celebration, group chairman Ramachandra N Galla said, “Around $1 billion turnover is expected to come from Amara Raja Batteries and the rest from other segments, including power system, electronics and Galla Foods.”

Speaking to the media, managing director of the group Jayadev Galla said the $25 billion turnover by 2025 was aspirational for now "but we have proper plans for the strategic growth of $2 billion revenue by 2015." The investment would be strategic in nature and the company would continue to roll out new products.

"Our compound annual growth rate (CAGR) has been steady at 10-15 per cent over the past two decades. If we sustain our existing annual growth rate, we should be able to reach the target," he said.

Stating that the proposed Amara Raja Digital World City (ARDWC), one of India’s largest integrated electronics manufacturing parks, was still in the concept stage, he said "We are yet to announce the master plan. The formalities have been done and we have received land from the state government."

ARDWC, spread over 500 acres in Chittoor district, is expected to create over 20,000 jobs. The group will be one of the anchor organisations.

The Hyderabad-based diversified conglomerate is also planning to take its total headcount to 10,000, from the current 7,000 in the next four years. Amara Raja Batteries has a 25-30 per cent market share in the organised sector.

Its two-wheeler and four-wheeler battery manufacturing plants at Chittoor have a production capacity of about 2.5 million and 4.2 million respectively. The company said it could expand up to 8 million and 6 million.

"Both the production facilities should help us meet the market demand in 2011-12. We may look at alternative locations to set up a new facility during the next phase of expansion in 2012-2013," said Ramana Prasad Alam, head (SBU-Automotive Batteries), Amara Raja Batteries Limited.

The new logo has five colours that come together as a swirling mass to form a dynamic circle of unparalleled energy, symbolise five elements of creation and five core values of the group. “The shape and form of the new identity represents a generational change as we transform from a set of individual companies into a diversified group," Jayadev Galla said.

The group has seven companies across the country with 12 manufacturing units. It expects its exports to grow 15 per cent from the current 10-12 per cent over the next 2-3 years.

The Amara Raja Group of companies has announced the setting up of a ‘Digital World City’ at an investment of Rs.250 crore in the next 12-18 months on a 500-acre site in Chittoor district allotted by the State government.

It had invested Rs.750 crore in the past 25 years in its seven companies and targets a turnover of $2 billion by 2015, said Group Chairman Ramachandra N. Galla, after unveiling its new corporate identity and logo recently, marking the completion of its silver jubilee.

CMC chittoor campus status-As reported by cmc
Here is the news article on CMC chittoor campus, courtesy cmcvellore.org

For the first time in its 110 year history, the Christian Medical College is opening a second campus. On Saturday, April 24 several hundred people gathered to celebrate this historic moment at a spot on the old Bangalore-Chennai highway, a few kilometers south of the town of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. It is here, on over 600 acres of land purchased from the government of Andhra Pradesh that CMC will build a facility that promises in the long run to equal or surpass the present Vellore location in size and importance.

CMC Director, Suranjan Bhattacharji, envisions a university of the health sciences, which will emphasize the connections between body and spirit, the secular and the sacred, the earthly and the divine. “With the cooperation of the Andhra Pradesh government, we have purchased sufficient land to build the clinics, labs, classrooms, offices and housing we so urgently need,” remarked Dr. Bhattacharji. The April 24 event inaugurated construction of the boundary wall, the first step in opening the new property for use by CMC. Within three months, CMC expects to open the first clinic. Nurses will initiate health services with doctors arriving shortly thereafter

The new campus is a twenty minute drive from Katpadi (Vellore) train station and a similar distance from a station at Chittoor. These rail facilities combined with the location on a highway will allow the new campus to serve patients from all over India as well as local villages. Approximately 600 patients a day come to CMC Vellore from the Chittoor area, and it is hoped that much of this flow can be re-directed to the new campus, relieving some of the pressure on Vellore outpatient clinics.
