Croxteth Park Miniature Railway

I remember not so long ago taking my eldest daughter on this railway. Now it is a vandalised wreck. It's all still there, all it needs is a bit of loving care to have it up and running again. Surely as Capital of Culture approaches restoring this potential tourist attraction is a must. Heres a few images I took earlier today while out walking with the kids. What do you think about this (once) little gem.

As you can see it's all there, but does anybody care enough to restore it all?

That's a shame - I enjoyed many trips on it when I was younger. I was offered a trip on it a few years ago, but thought I was too old being nearly 18 at the time. Still though, considering how popular Croxteth Park continues to be, it's surprising that the railway closed at all.

It looks very similar to the one at Worden Park in Leyland, which is currently being extended

There's one in/on-the-edge-of Calderstones Park, near the top where the allotments are. It belongs to this feller who lives in one of the park lodge buildings, and him and his mates just run it on Sunday afternoons about 2pm. It's not exactly like the one in the pics because I think it's basically a raised monorail (very small) but the wee engines are lovely, and these blokes are clearly just steam enthusiasts who love tinkering with them.

They take kids round on rides and you just chuck some money in a bucket as a donation. If you've been in the park with the nippers, it's worth a detour.

Brings back memories of my childhood. it's a shame what state it's in. I never new It'd closed, as it'd been running for years.

Oh well.

WaterF,
great Autumnal pics, despite the the depressing state of the railway.
Haven't been to Crocky Park for two years, even though my Mum's house is only half a mile away and I get my takeaways from Tso's on Muirehead Ave.

When was the railway last running?

Nope, the one I was at was in Hesketh Bank in West Lancs and was a proper narrow gauge steam railway.

Aint that the truth. On sunday there was gangs of moody yobs wandering around looking for mischief. I was thinking theres no way these little cunts would leave it alone if it was retored. But like you say if you want to hang on to something, you've got to guard it 24 hours.

You've just met the Grandkids of the original Crocky/Muirhead low class scum. Woolybacks with scouse accents

Yep, still there. In fact since Ocean Plaza opened it's actually gained a nice prominent entrance building at that end. Of course it now actually serves a purpose of transportation to another facility which it hasn't really done since Happyland closed at that end of the line in the late 1980's.

A bit harsh I admit, but it's quicker to drive from Crocky to St Helens than it is to drive from Crocky to TJ's.

I'm only taking the piss. The Canny Farm lads used to say the same thing to the Kirkby/Crocky lads on the Kop in the 70/80/90s.
