Crowne Plaza | Suffolk St Queensway | 12 fl. | Reno

Don't suppose this thread will get used much, but it will help keep the V Building thread clear and it is the renovation of one of Brum's largest buildings, top hotels and is pretty striking.

I went past it today and the new grey/black/white colour scheme looks pretty good. I think it is trying to echo Centenary Plaza and blend in with Alpha Tower.

Nicked a few pics from the V thread, courtesy of:

I kinda like it. I can't figure out why they refused space in V. I would have thought a big prestigious new development would be perfect for a hotel

Agreed.

I've never liked this building to be honest. I always get it confused with the similar looking one next to HCT.

here's a before picture

And a couple at the start of the referb.

I've just noticed, that terrible wall will be staying, oh...

The changes at ground levels will be excellent too, reglazing those awful plastic windows and using those empty shop units.

They should do something imaginative with the side walls though - a mural or something, rather than just have a big blank wall.

I didn't realise they were adding a bit to the top of crown plaza.

Ok, it isn't the best building, but it will look a lot better with this referb.

I hope there is (and I imagine there is ) something to 'lighten up ' the facade .At the moment it appears a lot darker than the original . Following recent builds , we will get a lighting scheme to pick this building out in the evening . Something to compliment The V Building I imagine .

It's losing that Benidorm look! Following a slow start, they have picked up the pace a bit. Thanks for the pics!

I suppose it worked out cheaper for them to referb an existing building, than to pay a premium for extra floors in a tall building.

It is very annoying, and I am always hoping they decide to put some extra floors on V-Building to accommodate some office space, but I'll just have to keep dreaming.

As I understand it, that was the original Arena Central plan that the Crowne Plaza Hotel was going into the tower. Due to the delays, and eventual cancellation of that project, Crowne Plaza decided to refurb their existing building, so V Building is now resi only.

Yeah, i'm pleasantly surprised how this is turning out. Softens the blow just a bit that V building isn't going to be taller.
