The NACHU GRAPHITE PROJECT in south-eastern Tanzania is gaining momentum. The operator,
Magnis Resources (formerly Uranex) of Australia has secured offtake agreements for supply of 200 000
tons per annum with Sinosteel Liaoning, SINOMA and Dalian New Materials Corporation. The resource at
the mine is about 150 million tons. Magnis has also signed an EPC contract with China Railway
Construction Corporation. Commercial activity should commence by the end of 2016. The mine is situated
inland from Lindi and 200 kilometres by road from Mtwara. The Project therefore has relevance to the
Mtwara Development Corridor.

Why Tanzania’s real estate market is taking off

On the seventh floor of Diamond Plaza, one of the new commercial buildings in Dar es Salaam, an IT company is setting up new offices. On the ground floor of this eight-storey building, the US restaurant chains Subway and KFC have already set up shop alongside Black Tomato, a home-grown coffee house.

“In Dar es Salaam there is a huge increase in the purchase of apartments,” says Mustafa Suleimanji, managing director for Lamudi in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.
This is one of the recently completed commercial projects in Dar es Salaam, where the real estate industry is taking off. At the heart of the city stand other recently constructed buildings, including the 37-storey PSPF Commercial Twin Towers, the 22-storey Viva Towers, and the 25-storey commercial and residential building called Uhuru Heights.
And beyond office buildings, shopping centres too are rising, as well as residential apartments.
Agriculture, oil and gas paving the way
This evident boom in the property market is part of the reason why global property portal Lamudi launched in Tanzania 14 months ago. Lamudi is an online real estate marketplace where owners and agents list their property for rent or for sale.
Mustafa Suleimanji, Lamudi’s managing director for Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique, says the increasing appetite for real estate in Tanzania is partly driven by a thriving agricultural industry and recent oil and gas discoveries that have led to an influx of expatriates into the country.
Trade is also a key driver, he says. Traders come from as far as Zambia, Nigeria, Congo and Mozambique to buy goods. Local wholesalers and distributors have made economic gains, especially at the bustling Kariakoo Market – Dar es Salaam’s busiest market – known to sell everything from food, to fashion, to agricultural equipment.

USD 1.7 Billion German Built Fertilizer Factory in Tanzania!

DEVELOPMENT OF WORLD-SCALE FERTILIZER COMPLEX TO BOOST ECONOMY IN TANZANIA
http://www.ferrostaal.com/en/group-f...Bcmd%5D=detail

Essen, 2015-02-03
A consortium led by the German company Ferrostaal Industrial Projects GmbH is going to exclusively develop a fertilizer complex in Tanzania together with the state-owned Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). The project will strengthen the country`s value creation and is one of the largest investment projects in Tanzania. The fertilizer complex is one of the topics during German Federal President Joachim Gauck`s visit to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, today.
Ferrostaal Industrial Projects GmbH, Germany, emerged as the winner of a tender process for the project development of the ferti-lizer complex in the United Republic of Tanzania, in a consortium with Haldor Topsoe A/S, Denmark, and the Pakistani industrial enterprise Fauji Fertilizer Company Ltd. As a “preferred bidder”, the consortium is currently in exclusive negotiations with Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation to establish a joint venture and with gas suppliers regarding the supply of gas for the project. Fur-thermore this project is open to local participation, whereby the National Social Security Fund and Minjingu Mines have already shown interest.
Dr. James Mataragio, Managing Director of Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation: “The conclusion of the fertilizer project is the step which has been awaited for a long time; it is now the right time for its execution in respect to gas utilization and boost to the agriculture sector as well as the Tanzania economy as a whole. TPDC strongly appreciates the efforts so far shown by Ferrostaal and consortium in achieving this goal. TPDC is committed to the formation of the joint venture and support to the consortium.”
Dr Klaus Lesker, Managing Director of Ferrostaal Industrial Projects GmbH: “By enabling the investment of more than one billion US dollar in the fertilizer complex, Tanzania is going to exploit its enormous gas reserves with great benefits to its economy and infrastructure.” The country has estimated gas reserves of around 50 trillion cubic feet (tcf) and more reserves are expected from untested prospects.
The fertilizer complex will be operational in 2019/2020, producing 1.3 million tonnes of fertilizer per year for both the local and international market. Agriculture in Tanzania will stand to benefit in particular. The sector makes up to one third of Tanzania’s gross domestic product, with more than 75 per cent of the population working in the agricultural sector. It is expected that an additional 5,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created during the construction and operating period.
