The M.D.& H.C. have announced they have applied for a Harbour revision order to allow them to build a in-river berth to accommodate post Panamax ships. They are estimating it will cost 80 million pounds. It will enable the Port of Liverpool to accept the worlds largest container ships. The berth will be located on reclaimed land at the Royal Seaforth Dock.

Just heard from a friend that the cruise terminal is apparently on hold for four years while there is an evaluation of the cruise world post-Covid. Apparently they are looking for a guaranteed turn-round operator to underwrite the viability of the project. The tip-off comes from someone who works on publicity for Cunard Line. Assuming this is true, that is seriously bad news. It also flies in the face of the construction of Liverpool 2 which went ahead and the ships began to arrive.

I'm sure we will be pleasantly surprised 🍾🥂

Unsure of the veracity of the source and for what it's worth:
My information has an ongoing feasibility study on accommodating, simultaneous, more than one vessel at the stage. If so, the terminal would need to modified/extended.
The latest thinking is to build a second terminal north of the IOM ferry terminal.

AS Camellia on T2 to load empties for Maersk as Peel encourages shipowners to reduce their empty inventories on T1 & T2 to reduce congestion. One off for the moment, next stop is Port Said.

Meanwhile some more optimistic news is that it looks like TA2 will return to T2 a week earlier that previously expected with the arrival of MSC's chartered Northern Jubilee on 16 Oct 2021. This suggests 2M have been waiting for the final phase of T2 to completed which Peel announced recently should done by the end of September.

Do you know the depth of the berthing pocket? Any doubt would surely negate any attempt to berth.

Good. Didn't include L2. 🤔

For months the world’s largest shipping groups have grappled with container shortages and a lack of berths in ports, as seesawing demand and Covid-19 heaped pressure on global logistics. Now another shortage is occupying the industry’s attention: that of the ships themselves.

The world’s biggest shipping company is investing $1.4bn (£1bn) to speed up its switch to carbon neutral operations, ordering eight container vessels that can be fuelled by green methanol as well as traditional bunker fuel .

Containers are built at highly efficient and highly automated factories, virtually all of which are in China. Eight out of every 10 containers built worldwide are produced by just three Chinese companies: CIMC, Dong Fang and CXIC.

Indeed MSC Maria Clara joins the service at Antwerp after an extra loader voyage from China. Originally launched and chartered to Maersk as Maersk Douala she has seen several owners in recent years and after 17 years appears to be on of about 110 "preowned" vessels that MSC has purchased in the last twelve months. MSC Maria Clara at 5060 teu is slightly larger than MSC Lisa which she replaces on the St Lawrence service.

There are a couple more new MSC visitors currently scheduled to arrive at T2 over the coming weeks, with MSC Maria Pia and MSC Hermes due to make their debuts on the Turkey service as the final phase of Liverpool 2 is completed next month. I understand that as part of the project includes an upgrade to the MDHC internal network between Strand Road gate and the Seaforth railhead to increase capacity and allow more flexible working. This work means there will be no trains all week to and from the port as the installation and testing takes place.

From 09 Oct 2021 TA2 is scheduled to resume calls at T2 with the arrival of MSC's Northern Jubilee.

How does that show on the MSC website? Does the vessel call at European ports first and then Liverpool?
Note sure the MSC website is best at showing the rotation, probably better using the Maersk website were it also possible to view the vessel rotation which on TA2 usually includes Bremerhaven, Antwerp and Le Havre. Rotterdam used to be on the schedule but now appears to be served on other services.

I can only see this working if a limited number of containers are shipped as deck cargo, although vessel 'tank tops' are mentioned in the article,so it must be assumed that under deck stowage is being considered also. It's difficult to understand how this could work, as the holds of bulk carriers are not fitted with cell guides to help keep the containers secure when stacked.
Older readers may remember the original Cast service between Montreal and Antwerp which was later extended to Liverpool used conbulkers loading bulk cargo in the holds and containers on deck. The Liverpool call was only for containers and used Royal Seaforth Container terminal whereas in Antwerp and Montreal they used dedicated terminals if I remember correctly.
