Anybody hit by a fallen heavy structure high up would be squashed.

by The Star Online & Astro Awani

Several units burning at PKNS flats in Kampung Kerinchi

major fire broke out in a 17-storey apartment complex in Kampung Kerinchi on Thursday afternoon.

6 units on the top floor of the PKNS flats were destroyed in the 4.30pm fire.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel were mobilised to the scene at around 5pm and all the victims were evacuated to safety.

"We received a call at around 4.40 pm where the fire department has already informed about this incident. The follow-up of the information will be announced later" said Deputy Superintendent Azahar Yaacob, who was at the scene.

Fire at the PKNS flats caused a massive traffic jam along both sides of the Federal Highway near Kerinchi on Thursday.

The traffic congestion, which started earlier due to a storm in the Klang Valley, was made worse when motorists slowed down to look at the fire at about 4.30pm.

The fire damaged six units at the top floor of the flats in Kampung Kerinchi.

It is believed that the fire started from a cooking accident. No one was injured in the fire.
