National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP)

Quote:
Welcome to NOTAP

In this present era of globalization and liberalization in the world economy, a nation must be able to harness her ideas inventions, innovations and creative works towards technological advancement and global competitiveness. To nurture national talents. Nigeria requires identification of her researchers and inventors; creation of an enabling environment and to initiate strategies to protect all the stakeholders and their creative works. The Federal Government of Nigeria, in recognition and appreciation of the above facts, established the Science and Technology Ministry with its various parastatals and agencies. The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) is one of the parastatals. NOTAP's Mission and, statutory mandates are clearly stated on this website. Our activities include Evaluation/Registration of Technology Transfer Agreements; Promotion of Intellectual Property; Technology Advisory and Support Services; Commercialization of R&D Results; Research Industry Linkage; Production of Compenduim Management Information System; Publication of Project Profiles on R&D Results etc. It is my humble belief that, NOTAP, through its current and future activities, backed with dedicated and efficient personnel, adequate Government support and funding, would take this country to greater heights Scientifically and Technologically.

A core ministry for development. The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology
Quote:

The Primary mandate of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to advise Government on policy issues on scientific and technological developments as its relates to the productive sectors of the economy. As part of this mandate, the Ministry coordinates and promotes Research and Development (R&D) activities in all the nation's Research Establishments.

This compendium of the on-going R&D activities covers the 21 Research Establishments under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. The R&D activities in these establishments were compiled through collection and collation of relevant data from all the Research Institutions by the staff of the Ministry. The Officers were sent out to all the Establishments for data collation.

This compendium is expected to server as a primary resource data base on all the R&D activities by the Parastatals under the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is expected to provide a base for consultation and complementation of research activities among not only Researchers in the Research Institutions but also with other Researchers in the country.

More importantly, the compendium is expected to provide useful information to industries and other stakeholders to facilitate more effective collaboration and utilization of research results.

The compendium will more importantly, enable the Ministry to rationalize R & D activities in its parastatals with a view to avoid unnecessary duplication and waste of resources. This documents will also be used as monitoring and ecaluation tool of the Ministry.

Naijaborn, I do not work for the govt. You ask because of my username, abi?

A lot seems to be happening, quickly too, in Nigeria's Sci/Tech sector that could help shape Nigeria's economic future in the next few years.

I hope for this thread to be one that will help people keep track of vibrant agencies, organisations, ministries and the likes that may play crucial roles in Nigeria's science/technology future.

National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI

Quote:
NASENI's mandate is to make available in the Nigerian market, capital goods and services based on sound engineering practices. In its years of existence, eight (8) Development Institutes which are the production arms of the Agency, have been established. Each of the Institutes is mono-mandate based.

NASENI's intevention in the Manufacturing Sector of the nation's economic life has been of realizing that 80% of the world's manufacturing is based on Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT). As a result of this, NASENI in the last few years has been advocating for a paradigm shift from the utilization of conventional manufacturing technologies to the application of AMT in the manufacturing sector of the economy. This is yielding tremendous results. This is for the global competitiveness of industrial products and fast-tracking of the manufacturing processes in Nigeria. The ultimate purpose of AMT is to create wealth in Nigeria.

NASENI's intervention in the Energy sector of the nation's economic life has also being in the pioneering of projects on the manufacture of Solar Plant modules in Karshi - Abuja, local manufacture of Small Hydro Power (SHP) turbines and installation of same in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country, the design and production of Pole Mounted Transformers, and the design and production of wind turbine blades, etc. All of these will boost the power situation in the country especially in the rural areas.

Amongst other areas of the Agency's involvement are the areas of Reverse Engineering, Nanotechnology, Education, Â Agriculture and so on.

We hereby advise the Science and Engineering Community and the SMEs to take advantage of the work being done in NASENI and the facilities available to fast-track their manufacturing processes and upgrade their Research and Development (R&D) Knowledge.

Mobile Internet Unit Project

http://www.nitda.gov.ng/index.php/ab...ts-a-units/144

The Mobile Internet Unit (MIU) is a locally made bus that has been converted into a mobile training and cyber centre. Its interior has 10 high-tech workstations all networked and connected to the Internet to facilitate access to several IT resources. It is equipped with printers, a photocopier and a number of multi-media facilities. Internet access is provided via a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) equipment with a 1.2m dish mounted on the roof of the bus.

The unit is also equipped with a small generator to ensure regular power supply. The MIU provides everything you'll need in a high-tech cyber centre and it has the added advantage of being mobile. It takes the Internet to places that have no other means of access e.g. the rural areas. It has also been deployed to various schools (primary and secondary) and the plan is to get all states and possibly Local Government Areas (LGAs) to have their own MIUs so as to facilitate the penetration of the Internet and ICT around the country. Mr. President commissioned the MIU on the 10th of September 2003.

MUI The MIU provides everything you'll need in a high-tech cyber centre and it has the added advantage of being mobile. The MIU was well received by the entire nation and was to be deployed in all the 6 geo-political zones in the country.

Everything in the MIU, including the bus, was locally assembled in Nigeria. It cost 25% of a similar unit, if imported. The MIU has been used at various conferences to provide convenient access to the Internet, even at very remote locations. It has toured some schools to expose and train the teachers and students on IT and the Internet. The response from the authorities and students of the schools has been most encouraging. Several other schools have started requesting for it seeing the great capacity it has to elevate the level of IT interest in the people.
