Nice updates Om192.

Its better to demolish building and widen the roads rather than having lot of future traffic problem.

Yes the culture of pasting posters on pillar, roads, walls etc. should be controlled.

Roads section shows, LED lIGHTS, water drainage/storage channel underneath footpaths. wonderful.

Slowly we are mastering the art of engineering. Our Lahore ring road is much better and more beautiful than M25 (London ring road).

The scale of dimensions of the lanes and foot paths is weird...appears to be in mm...millimeters! Not cm, not m but "mm"! I didnt know they worked to millimeter precision in civil works and that too in Pakistan?! :)

Footpath is 2000mm i.e. 2 meters i.e. 6.6 feet. Too narrow still...kind of like an "excuse-me foot path"! Dont know what that is...that is a footpath of an excuse!

let me help everyone here instead of all twisting their necks :

CM raps Wasa MD over water pipes breakage on metro bus route

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said Metro buses will arrive in Lahore very soon.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting regarding pace of development on bus project, security arrangements, traffic management and horticulture & landscaping at Model Town on Tuesday.

Shahbaz said that all the resources would be made available to ensure security arrangements and Rescue-1122 centres at canal and Yadgar Chowk while CCTV cameras would also be installed at different routes, bus stations and junctions for foolproof security. He said the security system should remain functional 24 hours continuously, adding that work on park and ride and at bus stations, including installations of escalator, should be expedited. The chief minister said E-ticketing booths would be constructed at stations. He took notice of incidents of breakage of water-pipes at the construction route and the difficulties faced by the citizens in this regard.

He admonished the Wasa MD and ordered him to ensure immediate redress of the citizens’ complaints. He warned that if such complaints were received again, strict action would be taken against the authorities.

affectees: Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to deal with the claims of the Metro Bus Project affectees within one week and submit a report to him in this regard. He said that during payments to the affectees, no one’s rights should be infringed upon and the payment process to the affectees should be simple and easy to save the people from problems regarding payments. He also directed the Excise secretary to extend tax rebate to the traders for the period when their business was affected due to the bus project.

power projects: Shahbaz Sharif has said that incompetent and corrupt federal government is responsible for pushing the country into the quagmire of problems and due to its defective policies the people were facing loadshedding while corruption has shaken the foundations of the country. He stated this while giving an interview to a foreign journal here on Tuesday.

graffiti: Shahbaz Sharif has ordered a vigorous campaign against graffiti. He directed all commissioners and district coordination officers to initiate action against wall-chalking and take immediate notice of the advertisements marring the beauty of cities. He also sought a detailed report on the measures taken in this regard in all the districts.

Close the bahawalpur road crossing, build an underpass from jail road to queens road and a roundabout on the chowk for smooth flow. Thats it!
LAHORE, Dec 6: Keeping in view the increasing traffic load and frequent jams at Qartaba Chowk (Mozang Chungi) at the juncture of Ferozepur and Lytton roads, the Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (Tepa) has been given a go-ahead by the Lahore Development Authority to construct a flyover there.

2m footpaths on both sides are more than enough. They just need to save it from encroachments. Most footpaths in Europe are 1m wide.

Not sure what parts of Europe you have seen but having a 3m footpath is a norm for most countries which focus on pedestrians.

Its not about footpath width, but the focus on pedestrians and how easy it is for them to naviate and get from A to B. Given the number of pedestrians we have, having small footpaths along with the encroachments they eventually see are not a convenience.

I simply know that our planners and engineers do a piss poor job and pedestrian comfort safety or alternative means of travel are never a focus. the holistic picture is always missing.

Being a 3rd world or developing country is no excuse in this day and age.

This was in our Golden Age of Development (Musharaf Times)

Bullet train for Lahore, Rawalpindi approved

Published: Monday, 31 July, 2006, 12:59 PM Doha Time

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has approved introduction of “bullet train” between Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Federal Minister for Railways Shaikh Rashid Ahmad said the speed of the bullet train would be 250km per hour and it would reach Lahore in one hour and 15 minutes.

Ahmad said a separate track on standard gauge would be laid along the existing tracks but will have fully fenced to avoid any interference. The feasibility study for this project would be completed in four months, he said.
Musharraf had desired to inaugurate the bullet train himself, the minister said.
Meanwhile, speaking at the opening of the high-speed passenger coach workshop at the Carriage Factory in Islamabad, Musharraf said Pakistan would be converted into a trade corridor by linking Gwadar deep seaport with the regional countries through an efficient communication infrastructure including rail network.

The opening of the workshop has taken Pakistan Railways towards self-reliance and modernisation.
The capacity of the factory to fabricate, renovate, rehabilitate and converse passenger coaches has now been increased from 150 to 225 coaches annually.

Referring to Pakistan’s geo-strategic location, Musharraf said Pakistan served as an economic and trade hub to the Central Asian Republics, the Gulf, the Middle East, Western China and South Asia.

The railways will be upgraded and modernised along with efficient network of roads and ports for promoting regional trade, he declared.
Earlier, Ahmad informed the president about the future expansion plans and modernisation of Pakistan Railways including laying of rail tracks linking Gwadar with Quetta and onward to Chaman on Iranian border and Spin Boldak on the Afghan border at an estimated cost of Rs75bn.

The president gave his approval to a pre-feasibility study for laying rail tracks from Havelian to Khunjrab Pass to be conducted by a German firm to link China with the Gwadar Deep Seaport. – Internews

 brother both Gawadar and Bullet Train Projects were brainchild of PML-N regime back in 90's. I'm thankful to Musharaf that he completed Gawadar Project but unfortunate part that he couldn't even start development on bullet train even he got 9 years tenure. Now PML-N has promised to fulfill their own initiated project of bullet train if they get chance of winning next elections as they gave us Motorway. So let's have good hopes for Pakistan developments in future insha Allah ! :)

Well said momers.

In my past posts I have been yelling that we need proper study of these porjects. We should not execute these mega projects in short time or without proper study. Study is the calculations of future needs.

Mall road Lahore and Main Bulv. MM Alam roads are soon surpassed by Ferozpur road, Canal road and ring road in term of Lahore commercial hubs. Laore is in process of redefining its corporate, commercial, cultural and shopping centres.

Ferozpur road is centre of Lahore like Oxford street, London. In oxford street foot paths are like about 20-25 feet wide. and still lot of problem.

We will soon see 100s of 100m tall buildings on Ferozpur road on example is Arfa Technology Park. Ferozpur road is future, commercial, corporate and shopping hub of Lahore. And we need infrastructure on this road for million of cars and padestrians. Unfortunately this commercial hub is without future infrastructure needs. so we need lot of development on this road in near future.

Lets keep thinking like a third world country. Inshallah we will stay one for the next hundred years then.
+1

Just look at one of the responses to your post. First our mentality needs to change otherwise we will stay a third world country.
