It is a great location.

Greenmount Beach is probably my favourite beach on the GC.

Found this one in a news story:

The tallest skyscraper in Cooly is under construction

CONSTRUCTION is well underway on what will be the tallest skyscraper in Coolangatta.

Eastview Queensland construction is building the 25 story Sanbano high-rise in Coolangatta, which will cost $35 million to build and will be completed September 2014.

Located on the corner of Marine Pde and Dutton St, the 1,006sqm site is in a prime position and has more than enough room for the planned outdoor putting green.

Site engineer Gene Kubala said the site will boast the most prestigious residential living in Coolangatta.

"It's high end living, we're trying to make it as prestigious as possible," he said.

"An exciting prospect for the Gold Coast, especially with the economic prospects as they are now.

"Everything has been going great."

Mr Kubala said that neighbouring businesses were buzzing with excitement, likely happy to see development once again booming in the seaside tourist Mecca.

"Everyone seems very excited in the wider community," he said.

"I do feel a bit sorry for our neighbours, it's been pretty noisy.

"We've been very conscious of this and we've been trying to limit the noise and of course working within council guidelines."

Mr Kubala said that everything was going relatively smoothly, despite battling the rain and the wind conducive to coastal construction.

"We've had a fair bit of rain but everything's going well," he said.

One thing we've had to deal with is huge amounts of trouble from the wind though.

"It makes it a lot harder to construct."

Hong Kong based company Sanbano hopes to include 28 impressive apartments in the high-rise, with a focus on quality and not quantity.

The building will also feature a large gym, private meeting room and a large lap pool with sauna.

A workforce of 80 people will be employed during peak construction periods.

Not really related to the building as such, but a good news story about the tradies working on this site raising money for a disabled teenager with a thing for cranes.

Quote:
Wheelchair-bound teen Nathan Crowell gets a real lift out of hanging out with these tradies

MEAGAN WEYMES GOLD COAST BULLETIN APRIL 15, 2014 6:51AM 1

WHEN a “rough” looking group of tradies spotted a boy in a wheelchair pointing at the crane on their worksite, they tooted the horn for him.

That first little gesture blossomed into an unlikely friendship.

Nathan Crowell, who has a rare metabolic disorder called Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation, first went to the Sanbano worksite in Coolangatta with a teacher about seven months ago.

Crane operator Brett “Butch” McGuire said he went to chat to Nathan after tradies on the site noticed him staring at the crane.

“He was just pointing at all the blokes on the site and his eye were really lighting up at the crane,” Mr McGuire said.

The visits became more regular and every time the 18-year-old would come, the crew would toot the horn for him. Soon the guys started calling Nathan “boss” and he called anyone with a hard-hat “Bob the Builder”.

Mr McGuire said Nathan would visit for a few hours every Thursday and sometimes on Fridays.

“He’s on a first-name basis with us,” Mr McGuire said.

The crew gave him a hard-hat with “crane co-ordinator” written on it and even took him up on the hoist at the high-rise worksite.

After a few months the crew at the worksite decided to do something for their friend.

“We noticed that his wheelchair was getting a bit old and an idea was born,” Mr McGuire said.

The group started raising money on site to buy a new wheelchair and send Nathan on his dream holiday.

Through raffles, a silent auction and donations they’ve raised more than $8000 towards their target of $15,000.

On Thursday, Nathan will get his wheelchair at a barbecue for the worksite crew and Nathan’s family and friends.

“Hopefully we can make the little champ’s dream a reality,” Mr McGuire said.

“He’s really brightened our days as well, he’s become a real integral part of the site and the core group of us here really love spending time with him.”

Nathan’s mum Jacqueline Griffiths said she had seen a big change in her son.

“We’ve got a picture of the boys up on his bedroom wall and he hangs out for Thursday to come around.

“He gets to have the experience, almost like being an apprentice, and that’s something I thought Nathan would never get to do.

“They’re these big, butchy looking guys with dirty hands and they’re taking time out of their day to do this for Nath. It’s so great to see.”

To make a donation to help send Nathan on his dream holiday, contact Graham Easterby on 5536 8100 or 0429 977 388.
