dariusb I think that was me. Thanks for compiling all that. I figured Houston had quite a list but nothing that long.

I have this book called 'Emerging Skylines' which shows a few models of 2 versions of the Bank of the Southwest tower. One shows the base and the lobby of the one we've all seen but the second BofSW was 94 stories tall but it was extremely ugly. It has this enormous crown and it was overall very tacky.

Your description of that old rendering of the B of SW building reminds me of L.A.'s tallest building with it's crown at the top. Can't remember the name of the building though.

US Bank Tower

But the version I saw had a extremely garish crown. I would say it was about 150 feet high. The entire building looked tacky to be honest.

This isn't it but here is another version of the BofSW.

Ok cool. I've compared pics of downtown Houston and LA and they are kind of similar.

They are, and it isn't just downtown. LA's main highrise areas extend west from downtown just like Houston's, and LA's downtown street grid is off-center from the rest of the city, just like Houston's. If LA had another supertall at the far north end of its skyline, the two would be extremely hard to tell apart unless you knew the individual buildings.

I wonder if the 2 cities used the same developer on some of their buildings?

Both the US Bank Tower and the JPMorgan Chase Tower were designed by I.M. Pei.

I really wish the Bank of Southwest tower was built. Too bad. It still lives in Philadelphia though.
