A licensing application has been submitted for the former Suri unit on King Street. It's for Tast, a Catalan restaurant and bar.

Pollen Bakery and Cask reveal plans to open in Ancoats

Quote:
Two new food ventures are set to open in Ancoats this year, joining a growing list of independent food and drink joints in the area.

The award winning Pollen Bakery and Castlefield bar operators Cask have confirmed they will open within the Manchester Life residential developments in Ancoats by this summer.

Voted by the Sunday Times as one of the UK’s top 20 bakeries, Pollen often has queues around the block for its sourdough loaves, cruffins and croissants.

Owners Hannah Calvert and Chris Kelly will close their venue in the railway arches on Sheffield Street, and move into their new home in Cotton Field Wharf, which they say will provide additional baking capacity and a space where the community can gather, meet, work, relax and break bread together.

Hannah added: “We opened Pollen Bakery in September 2016, unsure how a bakery, in an archway, at the back of Piccadilly station would be received. We got busier and busier, the bread got better and better, and our team has expanded.

“We have now grown faster than our little arch can handle and we can’t wait for our next chapter in Ancoats. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our new home in Cotton Field Wharf.”

Cask will open their second venue in the same development in Ancoats in spring. Since Cask launched in 2003 on Liverpool Road, their flagship Castlefield bar has become well known for its extensive beer selection and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Owners of Cask said: "We are really excited by the opportunity to expand our little piece of Manchester into another great part of the city centre. We look forward to bringing Manchester’s most comprehensive choice of real ales and international beers to Ancoats."

Cask and Pollen will join M anchester Life's previously confirmed tenants : Sugo Pasta Kitchen ; The Jane Eyre Neighbourhood Bar; and The Hip Hop Chip Shop , all of which plan to open by this summer.

It's madness. I'd appreciate it if people could object to this application seeing it's going to lock up the whole area on the A34 with extra congestion. That's before you consider the effects of locating this next to Manchester's biggest secondary school.

Aiden Byrne has been appointed Chef Director of D&D London’s new Manchester restaurant 20 Stories. Opening in February 2018, 20 Stories will occupy the 19th floor rooftop of the No.1 Spinningfields building and feature a modern British menu, using local produce sourced no more than 50 miles from the city.

Formerly Chef Patron at Manchester House, Byrne heads to D&D having worked at a number of Michelin-starred restaurants including Adlards, The Commons Restaurant, Danesfield Hoyse and Spa, and Tom Aikens restaurant.

D&D have appointed CentraRuddy, a New York based design firm, to design the 440-capacity space with striking features such as a gold leaf ceiling, silver birch trees and living green wall set to create a spectacular dining experience that matches the grandeur of the 360-degree views of Manchester’s city skyline as viewed from the restaurant’s terrace.
