It's officially U/C! Construction contract was signed today!

http://www.origo.hu/sport/futball/20...zerzodest.html

Please move this thread to the U/C zone!

As per board rules the thread will be moved when we see actual construction (framing atop foundation).

Technically we still need to see framework rising above a foundation.

I realize this sounds like semantics and you've very excited about the progress, but we try to stay consistent on the board and there is a difference between site prep, foundation work and then actual construction. So if they stay the course trust that I'll move the thread when you show me pics of the vertical framework going up.

Cheers.

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban will make sure that new national stadium is built in time to safely host Euro 2020. It’s a matter of national prestige for Hungary.

Quote:
After the country lost its bid to host the 2024 Olympics, Hungary is left with Euro 2020 as its largest sporting event in upcoming years. However, with contract for new national stadium signed just last month, the project is behind its initial schedule.

That’s why a special committee was established to oversee its construction and make sure that the October 31, 2019 deadline is not exceeded. This leaves just over 2.5 years for delivery, a very tight time frame for a stadium of over 67,000 seats.

No wonder the committee has high-ranking officials on board. It includes the president of Hungarian FA Sándor Csányi, development minister Balázs Fürjes and, most notably, the prime minister Viktor Orbán himself as chairman. Members are to meet at least once a month for non-paid oversight briefings.

So this stadium is now 'officially' under construction I presume? Then the thread can soon be moved to the "under construction" section although the just recently stated work seems to be in the phase of ground works for the foundation of the stadium.

Looking forward to see Romania play in this stadium for WC/Euro Qualification matches!

Will be curious to see the attendances for NT's matches. My guess is that it won't be full for most of the time. Romania's NT, for instance, averages ~ 45 - 50k for important matches and ~ 30k for matches against less interesting opponents. Poland does somewhat better in this regard, but they also have a very good team.

Anyway, I'm guessing you also plan to host a Champions League Final, concerts as well, possibly Orban's electoral rallies + Euro2020 matches, so in the end this stadium is a great idea and a great addition to Budapest.

This looks very good! What do you characterise as 'special'? And with so many new stadiums being build around the world, it is becoming more and more difficult to be 'special'. Let alone that it is usually very costly to be special.

I do have some doubts though about the commercial exploitation of the stadium. I don't know if a club in Budapest will use this stadium as their home. Without that, the stadium might become too much of a white elephant. But time will tell.

Why does this topic in under Proposed stadiums, while there are already cranes and drilling in the field? Shall we move to Under Construction?

Ataturk Stadium, Myiagi Stadium, Dal Luz in Lisboa etc
something different with no tiers that goes 360 around for example or somethin with transparent roof...

I know, it's also because FIFA and UEFA requires some features that make them all look basically the same.
