Navjot, please edit the redundant posts with some wonderful scenes of Kollam City or information about ongoing projects. That will be great and the redundancy can be avoided to keep the forum spick and span.

By the way, these days there are very few posts from you. Please make the forum lively by posting pictures and updates of Kollam. Currently, there are very few local forummers from Kollam.

Navjot, are you still in Coimbatore?

This is a 18 metre road with 7 metres of width on either side and 2 meter wide footpaths on eitherside.

I would love to see the snaps of the road stretch especially where the Ashramam link road touches the 4-lane road. A big traffic round is expected to come at this location which is the meeting point of 4 roads - Link Road, 4-lane road, Residency road and Shankers Hospital road.
The picture looks good, but the width of the footpath is not even. At some place it is very conjusted. Also most people are not making use of it. You can see one in the picture itself.

Also you can see vehicles parking at sides and thus making the 4 lane to 2 lane only.

Also the authorities should take measures to shift auto stands from kadappakada, near railway overbridge and Nairs hosptial.

You are correct, Suvarnan. The footpaths do not have 2 metres width at most of the places. Moreover, footpath constructions are not over at certain stretches as the necessary land acquisition is not over yet. The inaugration was conducted in a hurry burry due to the election notification.

Punalur - Schencottah BG conversion updates

This would be the final leg of the gauge conversion project on the Virudhunagar-Tenkasi-Tirunelveli/Tiruchendur-Kollam section. Broad gauge services on the Virudhunagar-Shencottah and Punalur-Kollam sections were commissioned in phases as and when the works were completed.

Tender has been invited for the tunnel construction in the Punalur - Schencottah BG conversion stretch. The tender amount is Rs. 7.8 crores.

The first phase contract to the tune of Rs. 90 crores has been completed by the Railways. The work will start this month consisting of land leveling works and construction of small bridges. There will be new tunnels in the Aryankavu, Thenmala and Ottackal regions.

The longest tunnel will be at Aryankavu of about 907 metres.

The MG line will be removed this month itself before the BG work starts.

Second Terminal @ Kollam Junction imperative

Though a big junction station with enough space, lack of necessary pit lines and maintenance yard for repair and maintenance of the special trains terminating here cause difficulties. More platforms are required to handle the smooth passage of these increasing number of trains.

With the introduction of the MEMU trains by the begining of next year and more trains in the Kollam Punalur BG route expected, Kollam junction will become one of the busiest junction stations in Kerala.

MEMU maintenance shed is already completed at Kollam Junction. Pitlines and shunting yard work is not completed yet.

Railways should provide adequate steps to improve the terminal infrastructure facilities at Kollam Junction with a Second Terminal @ Upasana hospital side, atleast 3 more platforms in the wake of new trains, and a maintenance yard for the BG trains.

More information counters and tourist information centers are required at the extreme end of Platform No 3 and 4 as the ends of these platforms are located almost 1 KM from the station entrance.

Kollam Junction being located at the city centre, good restaurants and shopping centres should be planned at the station premises This may provide more revenue for railways and will be handy for the increasing number of passengers and tourists.

A railway station at Pulamon will be of great help bcoz of its close proximity to the ksrtc and pvt bus stands.

Moreover Pulamon station could serve as the junction station for the proposed chengannur-kottarakkara railway line.

He said that the land for this purpose has been identified and necessary steps will be taken
Navjot, any updates regarding the Pulamon Railway station and the necessary land acquisition. Sice the Chengannur - Kottarakkara Railway line is mooted yet again, the Pulamon railway station is more relevant.

Thanks Navjot. I do not have any updates of new real estate projects.

But the ongoing projects works are in full swing.

Work of Crystal's project @ Vellayittambalam, Artec's project @ Thoppilkadavu, and Vaidya's Project @ Manayilkulangara are going on. I do not have any pics of that. Probably some local forummers could post some of the updates.

Palm Lands project and the Crystals projects at Thevally and Ashramam are already completed and sold out.

Desperately require a local Kollam forummer for the current updates. We badly need a locaql forummer.

Ksrtc's negligence towards kollam depot

Kollam has only 2 super fast services: ekm and tsr.. No super fast express services along the madurai route.. Kollamites are always forced to depend on the long distance services from tvm which always come full. No comp resvn in kollam. Kollam is a municipal corporation and the 4th largest city in kerala.. Negligence 2wards kollam has to be stopped. Kollamites seek more sf /exp / s dlx services starting frm kollam 2 ekm, tsr, pkd, cbe ,kzd, tirunelveli, madurai etc.. Interestingly , there r many long distance services from kayankulam which is just 36 km north of kollam.. Some services frm this depot could be extended 2 kollam.. Pls stop the step motherly treatment 2wards kollam depot.
