I am afraid to believe that anything will be built until I see significant building work in progress. This is London remember - anything can('t) happen!!

basicly they want to increase the size of the rs3 the middle bit... upping the height by 11m to 89.25M AOD and also increase its bulk! not got really as it will affect the 'soar' of the towers..

These are really going to bulk out the cluster when viewed from the West on the River I walk accross Blackfriars Bridge each day and CW already looks fantastic on the horizon. With RS in place its going to look spectacular.

great action going on there. If you look at the Chicago Spire http://http://www.skyscrapercity.com...d.php?t=434232, its at a similar stage of development - lots of piling rigs drilling in the caissons and a secant (presume this means perimeter / restraining) wall going in before excavation.

Anyway, back to Riverside South - they'll soon be digging downwards. Its amazing CWG get on with their developments so efficiently, but I guess that goes to show the benefits of your own in-house construction team.

Thanks for the updates chest - you're v.much our eyes for Canary Wharf.

I don't get into fights on the Chicago thread but that Chicago Spire looks very hard to pencil out. They are drilling 34 caissons but no bank loan is in place. The units would have to sell for London prices. This aint London, Hong Kong, NY or Paris. Were floooded with supply. 6500 flats on the market downtown with 17,500 building.

This news has already been mentioned I think, but anyway, just to make it official. Story from TheWharf:

Quote:
Tower to be one of tallest in the Wharf Oct 2 2007

CANARY Wharf's huge Riverside South project could be set to swell again.

Developers have applied to expand the giant U-shaped office development, which will feature one of the Wharf's highest towers when it is completed in spring 2009.

The smallest of the three buildings is to rise from 77.45 metres to 89.25 metres, while the total floorspace will be boosted by around 65,390 square feet to just over three-and-a-half million square feet.

The finished office and retail development will have just under three times the floor space of One Canada Square. At 241.4 metres, its highest tower will be just four metres shy of the distinctive obelisk, which is currently the country's tallest skyscraper.

According to correspondence from DP9, who are acting as agents for developer Canary Wharf Group (CWG), the changes have been made "in the light of significant market interest from particular global institutions seeking headquarters accommodation in London".

They have asked architects Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners to tinker with the scheme to meet their suggestions.

- from the south they look brutal, but looking from the West they seem to work - I can't really work out why. Though the proportions and design seem to make sense of the Bank Street towers somehow, they actually look brutally ultra modern - making the towers about to rise in the City look fussy and over designed in comparison.
I think if you are going to do 'stark' this is the way to do it - clean, stepped top and good cladding not yet seen at CW - a bit Broadgate tower - these towers will elevate CW from bland to sexy, clean and ultra modern...
I'm convinced these buildings are actually under construction and there will be no pause between basement works completed and towers rising and what the whole estate with these towers built will remind me of?- the sketches of the Bauhaus artists and their visions of city's of the future...
of course this is only my opinion and I'm sure many will disagree but I fully approve of these towers - simplicity at its most powerful.

There going to look a bit isolated though, until Heron Quays West is built. They are a fair distance from the main cluster. Even One Churchill Place looked isolated and that is only a really short distance from Canada Square.
