Merged Lime St/Central station HS2/HS3

This needs its own thread............The easy solutions are staring us in the face, but few see it.

Can Liverpool have all major interchanges at one highly convenient point?
Yes. All connections (interchanges) are best at one point for obviously logical reasons. The best place for that is Lime St with a merged Central station connecting via an underground travellator. A Lime St/Central station emerges.
Can Lime St accommodate 400m HS2 trains?
Yes by extending platforms into the approach cutting and constructing a second level in the train sheds to take other services that have shorter trains. Vehicle access, of which Lime St is poor, can be to the rear over the cutting. This is far more convenient than building a new expensive dedicated for HS2 only station at Exchange with its approach tracks using trackbeds that are better suited for future urban rail.
Can the west-to-east Liverpool region to Hull line (HS3?) run directly into all the major districts of Liverpool, Birkenhead and the proposed Liverpool Waters and Wirral Waters?
Yes. The trains can run into an expanded Central station by reusing one or two of the existing disused tunnels from Edge Hill. Central is currently overcrowded and in need of expansion or a new station built down the same tunnel. It give:
  • Waterfront at James St (cruise liners, museums, Albert Dock),
  • Business quarter at Moorfields station,
  • A new station for Liverpool Waters,
  • Birkenhead at Hamilton Sq
  • Wirral Waters.
  • Scope to extend to North Wales via future River Dee tunnel.
This gives the city a great advantage in that all the major cities in the north of England can reach directly the prime districts of Liverpool and the Wirral. This expands the city's economy.

The mayor appears to realise this by pushing for a new station in one of the disused tunnels at Archbishop Blanch school. He said this initially it can take some services while Lime St is being reconstructed. Central can be reconstructed, or rebuilt down the tunnel to avoid disruption, and the disused tunnels recommissioned. Central, the Archbishop Blanch school station and Edge Hill can take Lime Streets services while the station is being reconstructed to accommodate HS2 trains.
Can Freight for the expanding port be accommodated at Liverpool?
Yes. If HS2 is run into Liverpool Lime St, relieving pressure on the existing lines. If a full HS2 track is run into Lime St, this section can be used by HS3 trains, greatly relieving existing tracks. HS3 trains can run into Central and all the prime central districts of Liverpool and Birkenhead.

You must have shares in a travelator company?

Use these travelators. It'd make rush hour a lot more fun -

I have changed train at a station where one end of the platform was at a local station while the other was mainline with the platform linking the two. It was in Japan.... but can't remember where. Given the Lime street and central village developments, couldn't central and Lime St be linked in this way?

It would be the best. I doubt they would spend the money doing so. The cheapest and easiest is a travelator tunnel. If Central is moved down the tunnel it would be under most of Church St and the shortest point between the two stations is at the Hanover St end, where Central is now.

The Northern line would be best running direct from Gt.George St to Lime St and then curving to Moorfields or branching into the Waterloo Tunnel for whatever reason. I cannot see any more expensive rail tunnels being bored through Liverpool's centre, except the branches from Central into either one of the tunnels from Edge Hill.

If HS3 is taken through Central and onwards, which it should do, and HS2 taken to platforms underground or at Exchange, Lime St will seriously diminish in size.

Agreed. Can't we just have one thread for interminable discussions about trains? We now have at least three.

How about you don't create a new thread to post exactly the same thing you've already posted in one of the other mind-numbing train threads?

Just ignore him aj, he's being purposely antagonistic to get a response so this thread keeps getting bumped up the page in the hope someone bites and indulges him, there's always someone who will and he knows it. He's not having much success this time though.

I posted then realised it was really a topic deserving its own thread.

Trains and track, its the future......

The cheapest and simplest way of merging the 2 stations.......

Moving goods around the city , no problem, Road Trains are the answer

To future proof our transport needs, fill the docks to give Merseytravel the space to build tracks to accommodate......
.

Ding Dong, what`s not to like

Can I start a thread for my proposed Mars spaceport scheme, built on top of the St Johns shopping centre and including an underground rail line to Las Vegas and travelators that whisk you to the nearest Starbucks in case you need a drink? I just want to establish whether its deserving of further attention.

Are you saying one platform with two station buildings either end?
