I traveled to Bangalore by Chamundi Express yesterday (22-10-2014) and on 16-16-2014 and both times the train was late by an hour. Yesterday it left on time at 6.45, stopped at Naganahalli, Byadarahalli before reaching Mandya @ 8.00, 30 minutes late. Made up time after that it stopped at Hejjalla, Nayandahalli, Binny Mill outer before crawling into Bangalore city @ 10.30, 1 hour late.It took 3.hours 45 minutes to cover the distance which a passenger does in 3.15 minutes. In the reverse direction Tippu left 10 minutes late but arrived at the outer 5 minutes ahead and into Mysore station smack on time.

As regards doubling I think from what I observed, the Railways are planning on single track @ Srirangapatna with signals at either end of the bridges till they can shift the armoury. Work is going on at full swing everywhere and likely hood of completion by 2015 is very high.

As regards electrification, no work beyond Settihalli is seen. Since doubling has been completed beyond Mandya upto Yeliyur and 90 % work is complete in the remaining section and alignment firmed up, work can be started now so it can be completed simultaneously with doubling. Sub Station work is progressing at Bidadi.

Hope our Railway Minister who is from our state will expedite the works and finish it atleast by the revised schedule of March 2015.

New features in 139

The Integrated Train Enquiry System (139), introduced during 2007, is a very useful system providing train related information such as accommodation availability, current status of PNR, etc. to passengers instantly.Passengers have found this system to be very helpful.

In the recent past, new facilities such as ‘Spot your train’, ‘Mobile based destination arrival alerts’ and ‘Mobile based alarm alerts’have been added to this system.

The ‘Mobile based Destination Arrival Alerts’ is now available on SMS / IVR / Agent assistance through 139. This facility helps passengers on Indian Railways to set an alert / pre-information call before they reach their destination.

‘Spot your train’, yet another helpful facility, is also available through 139.This facility helps one to know the exact location of a train.Passengers can make use of these facilities to get additional information and services.
