its about time. Pauly has so much dead space that it kills the atmosphere. The concessions are small, minimal bathrooms and it looks and feels so minimal. UCLA deserves a shrine to basketball, and hopefully this will be it. The fund-raising is going well and i believe construction is supposed to start this year.

Fund raising is actually going poorly, which is fantastic news because the best thing that could happen to this renovation project is that it dies and they start anew with a halfway decent design. The current project is a joke.

Is there more substantial information of the plan? renders? capacity numbers?

This is looking very nice. A great modernization while keeping the original structure intact.

The Pauley Pavilion needed this renovation because of several factors: Narrowness of the concourses for spectators to walk around the arena, limited food services and restrooms, the lack of luxury boxes, and a floor configuration that keeps some seating sections distant from the floor. It is noted that even after the renovation, the Pavilion will still be without luxury boxes. and despite the UCLA Basketball team's extensive championship history, no banners are displayed anywhere in the pavilion.

Several websites have info and renderings. The expansion will include a major concourse around the place, about 1000 new seats, expansions and upgrades of food, bathrooms, lockers, press rooms. They still expect to open for the basketball season.

God this renovation sucks. All this money to make it look prettier, and it does look prettier, but this seating bowl is exactly the same. The retractable seats come closer, but the entire 200 and 300 level (or at least thats what they were pre-renovation) are in the exact same place. How the hell do you spend this much money and not improve an outdated and flawed seating bowl?

looks great to me, except that i agree with ryebreadraz that they should have redone the lower seating bowl. Ive always hated that the seats are so far from the action.
