There are lots of new projects in the pipeline for Norwich... All of them seem to be improvements.

First major one (looks to have broken ground on site now) is a student accommodation building on the vacant site next to the Bus Station:

It includes creating a new public square & restoring the neighbouring historical buildings:

Exterior materials look of very high quality - a major step up from the neighbouring Travelodge which already looks tired.

Work has started on the demolition of the former Mecca Bingo hall on All Saints Green:

There are also plans for a new Multi-storey car park at Rose Lane, with 100 apartments being built on the current car parking site:

I have seen the breaking of ground of the new accommodation next to the Travelodge, looks good, never knew it would be 8 floors high, 9 in the area of the top apartment area in the middle of the building.

Still not quite finished yet - just the lower scaffolding to come down.... hopefully all finished soon - apart from this, it has been a bit quiet in Norwich with any new developments recently so thanks Cloud32 for your post. Just need to get Anglia Square back up and running again!

Anyone has any news on a potential concert hall in Broadland Business Park? Heard something on the radio today about it.

Edit - Found this.... http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/video_4_...wich_1_3789400

I like the idea of it - although its a shame a central site is not being considered. I am always wary of schemes which threaten to take footfall away from the city centre, as it is the only centre I'm aware of that as survived (or even improved?) throughout the recession.

The framework of the first 2 storeys are being added for the new accommodation for uni students.

Also plans for some more apartment blocks near the football ground.

oh no those apartments look awful! The only possible saving grace is that the cladding will be of high quality, though I highly doubt it will be...

The Mecca Bingo hall is also at least half of its origional height now, with the remainders of the building covered by scaffolding. The view from John Lewis' café is markedly improved for one!

Taken me ages to do this, and may be going backwards in time a bit but I do miss the old Norfolk and Norwich hospital in the city centre. I have done a Google Sketchup model (not yet complete) of the old N&N hospital, I have carefully studied lots of old pics 1900-2000 and looked at them while doing the model so I get it virtually right, including some of my own pics I have taken since the towerblocks were demolished. Here is the hospital in 1988.

I did witness the towerblocks being demolished in 2003.
