203,330 tickets sold in the first five hours


Within the first five hours of the second period of the second sales phase opening, 203,330 tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup were allocated to football fans from around the world via www.FIFA.com. The five countries with the most ticket requests were Brazil (143,085), USA (16,059), Australia (5,357), Colombia (4,574), and Argentina (3,800).

Fans can see the respective availability per match in the chart on www.FIFA.com/tickets, which is constantly updated. This sales period is scheduled to last until 01 April 2014.

Pokémon's Pikachu will be Japan's official mascot for the 2014 FIFA World Cup


Japan have named Pikachu as their official mascot for the upcoming 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil which is being held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13, according to Anime News Network.

In case you don’t know who Pikachu is, he(?) is the electric-type Pokémon from the hugely-successful video game and anime series franchise Pokémon, who evolves into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone.

FIFA, LOC begin final round of pre-World Cup operational inspections


On Thursday 20 March, FIFA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) will set out on a final round of operational inspections at stadiums ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. After visiting cities which hosted the Confederations Cup in January, the round will now include Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Cuiaba, Manaus and Natal.

Operational inspections have been carried out on a regular basis by members of FIFA and the LOC and this round will be the second to take place in 2014.

Official Anthem of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ to be performed by Santana, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires at the Closing Ceremony on 13 July


FIFA and Sony Music Entertainment have announced today that the official anthem of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, which is entitled “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”, will be performed at the tournament’s closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro by Carlos Santana, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires.

As the fourth piece to be added to the tournament’s official music programme, “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)” will form part of the official 2014 FIFA World Cup™ Album alongside the Official Song by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte as well as the SuperSong winning track to be recorded by Ricky Martin and the Official Mascot Song which was released in 2012 by Brazilian singer Arlindo Cruz.

Australia the first team to arrive in Brazil


Australia has become the first of the total 31 teams to land in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup 2014™. The Socceroos reached Brazilian soil on Wednesday 28 May at around 6pm local when they arrived at the Curitiba International Airport.

“We are the underdogs. It will be a good opportunity for the Australian team to surprise, so this is all very exciting. And being in the ‘soccer country’ is an extra motivation, of course”, said midfielder Tommy Oar before the team boarded another flight - to Vitoria, in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo, where Australia’s Team Base Camp is located.

World Cup 2014: the UN and FIFA


June 11, 2014 – Thirty-one of the 32 nations that will contest this year’s World Cup are UN member states with England the odd one out.

That’s because the UK, comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is a UN member while each of its country’s football associations are individual FIFA members and compete separately for qualification.
