Magnificent - what a loss :eek:hno:

Do you know if there are any plans to rebuild? It would be a tremendous task.

I went through the catalogue of the Petersburg's lost churches (http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram.html).

The best ones (IMO):

Church of Sts Zachary and Elizabeth, 1897-99, architect Leon Benois, demolished in 1948

More lost churches.

Savior-on-Sennaya (Assumption of the Holy Virgin) / 1753-58 / Architect Andrey Kvasov

Demolished in 1961 to make way for a metro line. Will be restored.
