Truly incredible and I believe that a tower higher than 1000m looks better in Dubai's skyline than anywhere else in the world

This is summary Fury did based on some blueprints and 3d models we've seen in July 2012. According to those plans the raft is going to be 5,9m thick.

- The raft will be 5.9 meters thick. The BK is 3.7.
- Concrete for the piles will be 60 MPa - 2400 kg per cubic meter.
- Cathodic protection for all piles and the raft.
- 225 piles in total (main structure only).
- 15 piles 1.5 m. dia. by 65 m. deep.
- 165 piles 1.5 m. dia. by 45 m. deep.
- Round piles 3750 tonne capacity (4132 ton). The BK has 3000 ton capacity piles. This project uses metric tons (1000 kilograms - 2204 lbs) whereas the BK uses tons (2000 lbs).
- 43 barrettes 1.2 by 2.8 m. by 105 m. deep.
- 12 barrettes 1.2 by 2.8 m. by 85 m. deep.
- Barrettes are 7000 tonne capacity (7714 tons).

All this new info and the list of companies involved in the various aspects of this project is encouraging.

Ray.

When say "raft" what does it mean? Or better, where on tower will be?

that photo is an old photo of burj khalifa. the buildings will probably be very similar in the early stages of construction and the foundation might look like this aswell at some point in the future

The raft is the bottom of the building's foundation, a thick reinforced concrete slab that connects all the vertical elements of the foundation such as the piles and acts as a stable anchor for the building superstructure. In case of shorter buildings in stable soil conditions, a raft alone may suffice without any piles.
