^I'm sure I've seen those listed on another thread. It looks quite impressive

On a side note, I'm considering working for an organization within Education City, but I REALLY don't want to be living with my family when I move back to Doha. Does anyone know if their staff housing is any good or has got pics of it on this thread somewhere? couldn't find anything about it online. Any help would be very much appreciated

Qatar Foundation announces collaboration with elite Harvard Institute

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has announced that it will embark upon a collaborative project with Harvard Law School’s (HLS) Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP).

The agreement is part of an initiative of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) to establish a Qatar graduate law school with three integrated pillars: a doctoral programme, a research institute, and a faculty development programme.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Qatar Foundation will support HLS and IGLP initiatives to extend their reach for legal education across the world. As part of the collaboration, IGLP will provide advice and expertise to Qatar Foundation as it seeks to establish a law school in Qatar, a world-class graduate legal institute. IGLP will offer advice in the development of the law school’s academic programme, admissions policy, and exchange of academic and administrative know-how.

At present, IGLP runs a yearly workshop at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This respected project will be replicated in Qatar, allowing young scholars of law and policy from around the world to convene for discussions in Doha on an annual basis.

The first of these workshops will take place from January 4-14, 2013. It will provide opportunities for concentrated collaboration between both faculties and researchers, with a focus on areas of specific interest to the Middle East. The workshops will, it is hoped, improve scholarly networks for participants within the Arab and Islamic worlds by connecting them with their international peers. This ambition represents a key element of Qatar Foundation’s mission to broaden the knowledge base of Qatar, the region, and the world.

Commenting on the agreement, Qatar Foundation President Dr Mohammad Fathy Saoud said, “We are delighted to announce this collaboration with one of Harvard Law School’s elite institutes. Qatar Foundation’s mission to unlock human potential resonates with the stated aims of the Institute for Global Law and Policy to foster innovation and policy dialogue so as to address pressing issues of global policy. I am confident that, by working closely together, both Qatar Foundation and Harvard can achieve their shared vision.

“At the heart of this cooperation is Qatar Foundation’s vision to establish a centre of learning that will help revitalise legal education in the Middle East, and represent Islamic and Arabic legal traditions in the global dialogue on legal and governance issues.”

The collaboration strengthens Qatar Foundation’s growing reputation as a world-leading educational establishment.

“I welcome this valuable partnership with Harvard Law School’s Institute for Global Law and Policy. Our mission is to establish a distinguished and world-class law school in Qatar. By working closely with one
of Harvard Law School’s elite institutes, we are confident that we will achieve our goal and cultivate a strong legal education in Qatar,” said His Excellency Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, President of HBKU and Vice President of Education at Qatar Foundation. “We look forward to this collaboration and to offering researchers and academics within Qatar and across the region the opportunity to benefit from Harvard’s extensive knowledge and expertise in this field.”

Representatives from Harvard Law School and the Institute for Global Law and Policy expressed their enthusiasm for this new collaboration with the Foundation and look forward to extending and deepening links between Harvard Law School and Qatar as the project advances.

“It is an honour to have been asked to help advise Qatar Foundation as it develops its plans to build a world class law school in Qatar,” said Harvard Law School Professor and IGLP Director, David Kennedy. “Our own faculty development initiative, to be launched this year, will become a strong component in that broader effort and strengthen education in law and policy both in Qatar and the Arab region and beyond. Indeed, we see strong prospects for helping Qatar become a hub for convening young scholars and supporting faculty development and research.”

Professor Kennedy’s view was echoed by the Dean of Harvard Law School, Martha Minow. “The law school is proud of the research collaboration and training undertaken at IGLP and we appreciate Qatar Foundation’s confidence in our work,” she said. “We hope this will be the start of a rich and broad-ranging collaboration with the Foundation as they strengthen their own contribution to legal education.”

More information will be available at http://www.iglp.law.harvard.edu
I know this news is a little bit old, but it's well worth posting.

There is this board up near the Sidra Hospital, I guess this is the station serving the hospital, which is part of an elevated section serving the hospital, the convention centre (at the back of it), and the parking lot / future convention center hotel.

Syncopated Rhythms for Qatar Music Academy (w/ Loke Chan + Phillip Ramirez)

The objective of the project was to use interstitially and poche to create various scales and qualities of public and private spaces for Music Academy. Our project implements a parametric system of points and connective centroid vectors as a spatial organization strategy to define differing conditions of spatial division and spatial connection. This geometric system is extrapolated and radiates throughout the project in three dimensions, first by driving the network of floor-space cavities, which in turn, drive the interstitial surfaces (connecting tissue) and volumes (cones). The combination and interrelation of these three systems produce various iterations of interstitial conditions. The tissue and cones provide both interstitial spatial conditions as well as differing functional performances. The Tissue surfaces provide larger and broader degrees of spatial division as well as the catalyst for circulation within the project while the cones provide more of a finite and confined spatial condition. These two interstitial elements also combine to create another degree of sectional quality in their overlapping. Mass is the result of the complex formal interrelations within. Just as the human body houses much more complex and functional organs within it, the exterior of the project responds to the interstitial conditions from within. This project ultimately situates itself against the continued over-refinement of an exterior envelope with a lack of concentration on the interiority, resulting in a banal interior architecture.

HBKU brings Harvard Law School to Doha

The fourth annual Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP) workshop marked a watershed moment for Qatar’s growing influence on the international sphere of global law, economics and social justice.

As part of a multi-year partnership between the world renowned Harvard Law School and Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, the IGLP took place beyond the borders of Harvard for the first time, bringing international scholars to Doha in order to promote new perspectives and innovative approaches to issues of global law.

“It was a really phenomenal project,” recalls Dr Dennis Roberts, Assistant Vice President of HBKU. “We went into this with Harvard completely responsible for the content and for choosing the faculty and participants. “So that was totally their responsibility, and our little niche was basically one that ended up being very significant – the logistical support, co-ordination of volunteers, and the creation of cultural events that would introduce our guests to Qatar.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how it went, and we got tremendously positive feedback from the participants. Harvard had run the IGLP for three years in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and afterwards we had lots of participants telling us: ‘Wow, this takes it to a completely different level.’”

One of the chief benefits for relocating the IGLP workshop to Doha was it would be an opportunity for scholars based outside of North America and Europe to bring their unique perspectives to the event; an aim that Dr Roberts feels was hugely important to the workshop’s overall success.

“I think the part that I’m most proud of – in terms of having added value – is the cultural component,” he says. “Ironically, the IGLP is the Institute for Global Law and Policy but previously it had been heavily concentrated on North America and Europe, so taking the workshop outside those areas made sense. The group of 140 participants were either doctoral students in the advanced stages of their work or were newly-graduated PhD students who are launching their research careers. What we really hope is that now people will see the potential of doing research in the Gulf, Asia and Africa, which were pockets that the IGLP normally didn’t reach.”

With the fourth annual IGLP considered by all involved a resounding success, the next stage for HBKU is to assess the findings of the program in general, while ensuring that any potential returning attendees will be wowed once more in 12 months’ time.

“I’m trying to help anybody who participated – particularly from Qatar – to have a voice in the ongoing evaluation and feedback to Harvard,” says Dr Roberts. “Ultimately they are responsible for all of the content and for it to be as effective as it could be. I’ve talked to lots of my colleagues since and told them: ‘Great idea, write it down and we’ll send it to Harvard.’ On our end, in terms of hosting, what’s interesting is that a certain portion of the IGLP is repeat business, so people will come back year after year. So we can’t do the same cultural events, and next year I think that we can take it even further. There were a lot of questions about Islam and while 25 percent of the participants were Muslim, I’d say that the other 75 percent might be pretty ignorant of Islam, its basic approach and how that affects the fabric of a society.

“So for next year I’m thinking of activities such as a visit to the State Mosque of Qatar, going to the Fanar - Qatar Islamic Cultural Center in Doha or perhaps the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue. I’m thinking about things like that, which I feel will do a better job of positioning the question of law and public policy in an Islamic context, which I think will offer great value.”

In other words, the Assistant Vice President of HBKU is assessing the multitude of possibilities to build on the success of the first IGLP Workshop in Qatar, while also keenly aware that the combined efforts of HBKU and Harvard Law School have laid down a considerable benchmark.

“We will feed all of the detailed critique regarding modification of the program to Harvard and then we will engage our people here to figure out what we can do new and different that will be even better than this year,” says Dr Roberts.

“We did a great job this time, so it’s going to be tough.”
It appears that Qatar Foundation are making all the right moves in their attempt to lure Harvard Law School into Education City.

I don't know if this has been posted before as it is quite old, but apparently Premier Inn is set to build a 200-room hotel in Education City. This is has been circulating since 2010 so it's probably under construction right now.
