Tottenham Hale, wont be able to handle CR2
Anyone who's sat on a bench at Tottenham Hale station will know how busy it is, just one up and one down platform. How on earth will it be able to handle Crossrail 2 with out major works and expansion.

Well, it wouldn't. Which is why a scheme like CR2 will cost billions.

While i don't believe it was specifically mentioned yesterday, Crossrail 2 would almost certainly involve using the full four track formation along this section of the WAML which would provide more than enough capacity - in fact TfL have shown interest in doing this much earlier, a scheme for partial quadrupling was included (seemingly unsuccessfully) in their HLOS submission.

See here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi..._-_1932863.jpg Plus room to expand to the West over the approach roads and car park too. Replacing the A503 bridge and existing station buildings will be the major expense, but nothing like at other Crossrail locations where tunnelling and sunken station boxes are necessary. Look at what's being done at Canary Wharf, that is more difficult than Tottenham Hale by a factor of about 100. |
