Although they are interesting, the quality of the interiors of every Iwanoff home I've been into (not many, granted) have been pretty damn poor. Caravan cladding built-in muck everywhere. I guess it was the style at the time...

The Midland Railway Workshops are hosting the 2012 Australian Architecture Awards in November. Pretty cool, first time ever in Perth I think.

DO YOU see your world in terms of food? When it comes to holidays are you more interested in the restaurants and local delicacies than the so-called cultural sites?

Does the thought of visiting an art gallery make you want to take a nap?

Well here is some art that just might take your fancy.

Liz Hickok is a San Franciscan artist mainly concerned with turning her neighbourhood into a gloopy yet colourful landscape. She recreates familiar streets, buildings and landscapes using the familiar food-stuff.

“The installations introduce a more physical experience for the viewer involving smell, movement, and the desire to taste.”

Pastel-coloured city blocks are lined with green-tinged trees. Jewelled with glimmering lights, over time the mould sets in and slowly they decay.

Hickok celebrates the famous architecture of the Californian city, she photographs her works using scale to play with the viewers sense of what is real and what is imaginary in these familiar streets.

“Lit from below, the molded shapes of the city blur into a jewel-like mosaic of luminous color and volume.”

Much like in real-life these forms start to bear the brunt of time and decay:

“Once I began building my own model cities out of Jell-O I found that the jiggly, iconic childhood dessert is not only perishable, but also uncontrollable.

“The sculptures eventually decay, leaving the photographs and videos as the only record of their existence.”

This is pretty cool. From Donaldon + Warn, who are also designing the new Amara Hotel.

They should have designed the state theater.

I enjoyed this short NY Times article about the demolition of a 47-storey 1908 skyscraper. Three good pics attached to it, plus some interesting views of the original architect's about building setbacks:
