I think Carrefour makes a mall a destination as well. Or a Hypermarket of sort. Since it already will open a Carrefour Express, it will sort of attarct people. Plus, the restuarants like Chilis, and whatever, will sort of bring people in. Still, not significant, but still good.

I agree it will be like Royal Plaza a place for Elite who visiting these shops or these coffee shops we have many large malls and there more coming on the way and not wrong to have small malls for different segments.

I had forgotten about carrefour express, that certainly helps. All big malls need a centre piece pure and simple. No one goes to a mall just for a sunglasses hut !.

There is certainly a certain irony here though as the mall is aiming high end but the flats above are no where near high end. I saw better flats in Al Sadd. I was shocked.

Not for this thread but what are the anchor stores at North Gate and Doha Mall ?

Doha’s Lagoona Mall announced the opening of its first bouquet of stores with exciting brands ranging from luxury fashion to iconic accessories in addition to the anchor tenant Fifty One East.

The Darwish Malls development and Qatar’s newest retail and lifestyle destination will house brands including Porsche Design, Cortefiel, Nara Camicie, Springfield, Clarks and Paris Gallery.

Spanning 128,000 sq m of space, Lagoona is a retail experience beyond the ordinary, taking the elements of life as its muse and paying homage to light, space, air and touch to create a sense of openness and wonder that is rare for shopping destinations, a statement from a mall official said.

Strategically located at the gateway to Lusail city, the mall will be home to over 160 imaginatively decked-out outlets in addition to 18 restaurants with international cuisines dotting a 22,000 sq m European-style Piazza.

Eamon Kelly, general manager, Lagoona, said: "We're extremely excited to see the launch of the initial phase of Lagoona which is still a work in progress but one where the retail experience is taking shape beautifully. It targets affluent customers looking for a place to call their own. Those walking through Lagoona's doors are a rare proposition: They're truly well-heeled and well-informed about global trends. The first line-up of boutiques and outlets is now open with other bouquets of stores to follow at later stages in 2012.”

The mall's anchor tenant, Fifty One East, will be the biggest luxury multi-brand super store in the Middle East region covering about 13,000 sq m and delivering the finest to the elite of Qatar. It is the longest-standing retail chain in Qatar and the most exclusive address for a style-savvy population seeking the best life-enhancing elements.

Elie Akar, project manager, Fifty One East at Lagoona, said: “The new Fifty One East at Lagoona, with its unique retail concepts will certainly introduce new trends to the region. The mall infuses style and space in every facet with different intelligent designs. This is exactly what the new Fifty One East offers.”

^ I've been to one of my friends apartment and it looked pretty nice (or maybe he was just very good at decorating the place), my only hangup about lagoona mall is that they slightly copied "one and only resorts" logo.
