OFFICIAL GLOUCESTER REGENERATION

Gloucester is a prosperous and exciting city located near the Welsh border on the banks of the River Severn. It has a long and detailed history dating back to the Roman times and was an important industrial hub for much of this time. Following changes in industry, the city saw a large decline during the last half of the 20th century.

Following large scale investment and promotion of the city, it now boasts impressive architecture, innovative industry and an improving retail scene.

Below is a summary of the latest projects and details of completed work.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Gloucester Quays
Gloucester Quays has been a massive £400million investment into Gloucester by the Peel Investment Group. The first phases are completed, being a designer outlet centre, Travelodge Hotel, Sainsburys Supermarket and new college site for GLOSCAT.

The latest phase is a £40million plan to build a 10screen Cineworld cinema above 10 bar/retaurant units in the area between the canal and the outlet centre. Nandos and Pizza Express are already tenents of this area. Restaurants believed to be interested include Carluccios and Wagamamas.

Gloucester Docks
Work is completed on a multi-million pound plan to convert the former antique centre into high end apartments. Another apartment block has been completed with the architecture designed to sympathetically fit in with the local surroundings and historic Gloucester Docks.

Ecclasiastical Insurance and due to imminently start work on their new Headquarters building on the current Southgate Street surface car park. The last news was that the company had committed themselves to site and appointed architects to draw up the plans.

St Oswalds Park Final Phases
Residential phases continue by Charles Church/Persimmon and there are new apartment blocks being constructed alongside the retirement centre and behind the B&Q store.

Kingsway
Many thousands of houses are being build on the western fringe of Gloucester by a consortium of 8 house builders. There will be 3-400 houses plus a new neighbourhood centre, parks, 2 schools and shops once complete. Neighbourhoods 2&3 have recently been launched, and construction of the new school has begun. The retail provision so far includes Tesco Express, Badhams Pharmacy and a pub. A large Asda has been confirmed for the area just off the A38 with work due to start soon.

Railway Triangle
Work has now started to clear the site and lay down services to the railway riangle site. This will become home to a large new Morrisons store and petrol station alongwith light industrial units, small retail stores and restaurants.

PROPOSED

Greyfriars
Estimated at £60million, it occupies the site formerly held by Gloscat on Brunswick Road. The old teaching blocks will be demolished, and a new sustainable neighbourhood built, including new retail, offices and restaurants plus a new public square. The recession has impacted on this development, having been delayed and Edward Ware homes being dropped as preffered developer. Construction is due to start in March/April 2010 following a 1 year public consultation (very favourable as well). The new developer Linden Homes will construct abotu 400 units with £60 million estimated investment in the area.

Bakers Quay
No recent news and the site has been put on the market.

Kings Quarter
The plans here include the demolition of the Bus station and carparks, and to extend the Kings Walk Shopping mall. The contruction of a new flagship department store is proposed. Kings Square would also be totally redeveloped, and the bus station would move to the car park of Land Registry (opposite the train station). Kings Square itself would be filled with new retail stores and the square moved north to sit where the current bus station and taxi ranks are- better linking the station to the city centre. Stanhope Plc are behind the plans and have a succesful legacy at delivering high quality retail driven regeneration- most notably in Exeter. The project will be worth an estimated £80-100million.

OTHER PROJECTS

Contract Chemicals Site, Bristol Road
a masterplan for this former factory site is currently being drawn up, but looks likely to be mixed use including offices, housing and light industry, and is estimated to be worth £30million.

COMPLETED

Gloucester Quays Phases 1-3
The Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet Centre has been completed and opened with great success. There are currently 60 stores let and many more due to be announced shortly. Stores such as Nike, Calvin Klein, The White Company, Gap are all making first appearances in Gloucester and often the county.

Also included in the project was a new Sainsburys Superstore, bringing with it 200 jobs.

A new iconic Bridge finally connecting St Anns way to Hempsted

Finally, a new campus for Gloucestershire opened in Phase1 of the project. Being hailed as a major success and setting the ball rolling for the wider Quays development

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
Completed a couple of years ago, this redevelopment provided Gloucester with premier health facitilies including new childrens wards, X-ray, orthopaedics, A&E, wards and new parking. The project cost ~£30million.

Ibis Hotel
Due to be build on the Eastern Avenue roundabout behind the Total Petrol Station, this large Ibis hotel brings much needed hotel space to the city.

St Oswolds Park Phases 1&2
On the site which was formerly the Gloucester Cattle Market, this landmark development has seen the biggest B&Q store in the western world, plus a DW Fitness, Mothercare, Argos, SCS, Frankie and Benny's, Subway, Dominoes, Natwest, Homesense and Harvester.

The project is valued at £100million and was a joint venture between Hammerson Developments and Gloucester City Council.

Gloucester Docks
Crest Nicholson have spent £10's millions on regenerating Gloucester Docks and restoring them to their former glory. They have also build two new blocks around Barge Arm, containing shops and restaurants in the bottom.

Gloucester Rugby Club
The club has undergone a large scale expansion project, seeing the second new stand contructed in 3 years. The capacity of the club is being increased to 17000 from 6000. The stand is estimated at £6million.

Gloucester Northern Bypass
Gloucester welcomed the opening of a new £43million bypass, opening up the western waterfront of the city and the Monk Meadow portion of gloucester quays for development. The bypass has significantly improved traffic congestion down Bristol Road.

Here are the projects in relation to the city centre:

As you can see, Gloucester is indeed undergoing a rebirth, so please comment, discuss, add pictures and renders...Gloucester is worth talking about!

Glad that it hasnt been dropped. I think Peel have been much more sensible doing it in this phased way rather than trying to do it all at once. It keeps up the momentum of the development and shows change accross a wide area too.

Planning application to allow for more units at the Gloucester Quays than at present has been accepted. Some people were intially unhappy with this. I cant see that this will have any impact on the city centre though. Kings Quarter will more than balance out the Quays.

Here is some more good news for Gloucester Docks. It is essential for the survival of the area that the docks have added attractions so that it doesnt become a void between the city centre and the quays.

Converted paddle steamer set to be latest attraction at docks

A PADDLE steamer converted into a hotel, restaurant and cabaret venue is set to become the latest attraction at Gloucester docks.
Residents hope the Oliver Cromwell paddle steamer will make the Docks more vibrant and lively.

At a meeting of Gloucester City Council's planning committee on Tuesday, councillors voted to allow English Holiday Cruises Ltd to moor the boat at Alexandra Quay for three years.

Coun Andy Lewis (C, Quedgeley) welcomed the plans. He said: "It's a good party venue. I've been around it, and I think it will work.
"I think it will add some vibrancy to the Docks."

Coun Geraldine Gillespie (Lab, Moreland) agreed, saying the boat would provide "an interesting place to spend an evening".
However, Coun Jeremy Hilton (Lib Dem, Kingsholm) raised concerns over the reason the boat was no longer used for cruises up and down the River Severn.
A report by planning officers claimed: "It is no longer possible
for the applicant to provide such holidays owing, in part, to the silting up of parts of the River Severn."

Coun Hilton said: "I wonder whether the officers sought advice from the organisation responsible for the River Severn.
"Though I don't object, it would be better for the vessel to be used as it has been – for boat trips."

In its early stages, the application met with objection from the Civic Trust and the City Centre Community Partnership, both of which called for the boat to instead be moored at Llanthony Quay.
But members of the committee agreed three years would be an adequate time for the boat to be moored at Alexandra Quay.

Chairing the meeting, Coun Phil McLellan (Lib Dem, Barnwood) said he also welcomed the application.
He said: "We all want to see a Docks which is lively and vibrant.
"It may not be the best site in the long term, but in the short term I think it's fine."

Kings Quarter - £350M Development

Taken from BBC website today:

Designs invited for city quarter

A shortlist of developers has been invited to submit plans for the £350m transformation of the King's Quarter area of Gloucester.

The brief is to produce a "rich and vibrant design" for the area around King's Square, the bus station and surrounding streets.

Designs must be of "exceptional architectural quality" to build on the success of the Gloucester Quays.

The scheme will also include a shopping complex and comfortable public spaces.

"It must be a vibrant centre - that reflects our aspirations to be a modern 21st Century city - that functions both by day and by night," said Gloucester City Council Leader Paul James.

"It also needs to change public perception about Gloucester as a place to live, work, shop and visit."

Expect more details to come available in the local press some no doubt.

More off the city councils website:

"Heart of the City" Vision a Step Nearer
Press Release - 13th July 2009
PR 073/2009

The vision of a new ‘heart of the city’ development in the centre of Gloucester has moved a step nearer.

A shortlist of developers has been invited to come forward with detailed proposals for regenerating the King’s Quarter area of the City.

They are being asked to produce a rich and vibrant design for the area around King’s Square, the bus station and surrounding streets.

Their brief is to design and deliver a major new 25,000 sq metre shopping scheme together with housing, leisure and employment uses. The scheme is to use high quality materials and is required to be of innovative design and exceptional architectural quality.

It must deliver a real ‘step change’ in Gloucester’s performance as a shopping destination, building on the progress already made through schemes such as St Oswald’s Park and Gloucester Quays.

The scheme is to include new, modern bus facilities, high quality public toilets, attractive and comfortable public spaces connecting through to the railway station and will integrate with the proposed regeneration of King’s Square.

The shortlist of developers has been chosen following a “pre-qualification” exercise on the basis of their experience, skill, vision and capability to deliver the scheme.

Detailed proposals will be submitted to the Council in the autumn and the successful developer is expected to be named before Christmas. A public consultation exercise on the scheme will be carried out in the New Year.

Council Leader, Paul James, who is responsible for regeneration, commented: “ This scheme must revitalise and enhance this area as the heart of the City.

“It must be a vibrant centre - that reflects our aspirations to be a modern 21st century city - that functions both by day and by night. It also needs to change public perception about Gloucester as a place to live, work, shop and visit.”

Laura Stamboulieh, a Director of DTZ - property advisor to Gloucester City Council added: “The quality of the shortlist of potential developer partners is a credit to the City Council’s careful consideration of its requirements and realistic approach given the challenging market conditions.”

Chris Oldershaw, Chief Executive of Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company, said: “The redevelopment of King’s Quarter is one of our Magnificent Seven sites central to the City’s regeneration and will secure Gloucester’s future as a vibrant and sustainable destination for the 21st century.”

Language centre earmarked for Blackfriars

Language centre earmarked for Blackfriars

A NEW £5million languages centre could be built at Blackfriars in Gloucester city centre.
Funding for the project was secured from the Government earlier this year.
Now Gloucestershire County Council, who submitted the bid, are working to turn the plans into reality.
The centre would teach rare languages, and would be supported by agencies across the county including GCHQ.
A report was given to the council's ruling cabinet meeting on Wednesday by Coun Jackie Hall, deputy leader of the authority.
She said: "We submitted a bid in October 2008, and we have now been told the bid has been successful.
"A business plan is being prepared and should be ready for the end of this month.
"Two possible sites have been earmarked for the centre, either at Blackfriars in the city centre, or in Oxstalls next to the University.
"The Blackfriars site is our preferred option, it would help the regeneration of that part of the city."
Coun Mark Hawthorne a member of the county council's cabinet, said: "I am pleased that our preferred site is Blackfriars, it is one of the most contentious regeneration sites in Gloucester.
"The Blackfriars Priory is one of the gems of the city, but it is hidden from view by the hideous building next to it and to see that sorted out would be wonderful.
"This project could be key to seeing that site came back to life.
"However, if this is to work, we need our partners at the South West Regional Development Agency, at the University of Gloucestershire and at the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company to commit fully to the scheme.
The Blackfriars site has been earmarked for regeneration for more than 20 years without success. A project to create a new shopping centre on the site was shelved after a dispute over landownership.

Cafe Nero has opened at Gloucester Quays this week, to add another outlet for food and drink, alongside Costa and Pasty Presto.

Also, some interesting (if unexpected) news about the area:

County may make culture city bid

Gloucestershire could be in the running to be European Capital of Culture if a proposal being considered by regional councils is carried forward.

A possible joint bid for the title is being mooted by Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Cotswolds.

The bid for 2013 has already been discussed by Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Strategic Partnership.

The European Capital of Culture is usually centred on one city, but regions have won the title in the past.

Previous UK holders of the prestigious year-long post have been Glasgow in 1990 and Liverpool in 2008.

Gloucestershire's bid would be timed to coincide with Gloucester hosting the Three Choirs Festival.

Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood said he thought it was a "fantastic idea" that would bring visitors and income to the county.

"We have got a great tradition in European culture. We're the home of Gustav Holst, we have world-famous jazz, music and literature festivals... I'd love to celebrate all of that."

Some really good news regarding Blackfriars, one of the last remaining huge derelict parts of the city:

Regeneration of Blackfriars moves a step closer

Local people will get an early opportunity to comment on development plans for Blackfriars, the City’s most historic regeneration area, when they go up for public viewing and consultation this summer.

The area, just over 5 acres in size, is bordered by the River Severn, Westgate Street, Southgate Street and Commercial Road and has some of the best, and worst, examples of Gloucester’s history lying within it.

The historic Grade 1 listed Blackfriars Priory and The Fleece Hotel on Westgate Street, also Grade 1 listed, both lie within Blackfriars, along with two large untarmaced areas currently used as car parks.

Chris Oldershaw, Chief Executive of Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company (GHURC), said: “Blackfriars is the all-important link between Gloucester Docks and the City Centre. The masterplan must make the most of this historic area as well as setting out improved routes between The Docks and the Cathedral, and along the River Severn.”

The draft masterplan outlines the development of a new cultural and civic quarter offering new city centre homes, employment, a new hotel, increased car parking and the opportunity for leisure activities.

With the recent announcement by Gloucestershire County Council that it has won a £5 million bid for a language immersion centre, plans are already being discussed to locate this within Blackfriars. The University of Gloucestershire is also discussing with English Heritage, owners of the Priory, the scope to convert the North and East ranges as a centre for concerts and performing arts

Chris Foley is head of regeneration for Gloucestershire and the West of England at the South West Regional Development Agency, which owns the site of the proposed language centre. He said: “These are exciting ideas which could create new life in an area of the city which over the last twenty years has suffered badly from neglect. Project partners are now discussing the proposal details and the next step for us will be to seek the necessary detailed approval to commit funds to invest in the University and English Heritage’s plans for the Priory and the County’s plans for the language centre. We hope that the public consultation will bring in new ideas from local people to enhance the broad ideas being set out within the draft masterplan.”

Alongside the GHURC masterplan, Gloucester City Council will also be inviting public comment on its planning brief, which sets out what development the City Council’s planning team will support.

Council Leader, Paul James, who is responsible for regeneration, commented: “Whilst this is undoubtedly a very challenging site, the successful regeneration of Blackfriars would be a jewel in the City’s crown.”

Blackfriars has as much archaeological heritage beneath the ground as above it and over the last few years extensive studies of the area have been carried out so that the GHURC has a good idea of what lies below. However, further archaeological assessments will be required and the GHURC hopes to invite the public to view these digs later in the year.

Outline plans for Blackfriars

· The opening of the North Range of Blackfriars Priory, which has been closed to the public for many years, as a venue for concerts and exhibitions.

· Demolition of the former ‘Clutch Clinic’ on Kimbrose Triangle to re-create the cloister of the Priory. This new space could become offices and meeting room to enable full use of the Priory’s South Range

· A 4-star hotel on the ‘hole in the ground’ behind Gloucester Prison

· New pedestrian route through the ‘Cloister’ area of Blackfriars Priory

· A new public Blackfriars Square

· The University of Gloucestershire is discussing taking on the management of Blackfriars Priory with English Heritage

· Gloucestershire County Council is seeking to establish its new Languague Emersion Centre at Blackfriars.

· Car Parking

· Police station proposals for Ladybellegate Street

Excellent news gtnzpope, and thanks for the update.

I was thinking it would be Pizza Express as well. I guess it has been useful for these restaurants as they have been able to gauge how the centre has gone down before committing themselves.

I was looking online, nothing confirmed on any of the resturant sites, shall have to wait and see what the citizen have tmorw.

Gloucester Quays have updated their website to show that Oneida and All Things Chocolate are both opening soon.

They have been clever by keeping the momentum up on this, as new shops have opened almost every 3-4 weeks now. Each time u go back there is another one or two shops.

Pizza Express / New Indian restaurant/Bar

The applicaton notice was up when i walked past last week , so it was no great suprise to me. Let's hope it's the 1st of many.Noticed yesterday that there will be a new indian restaurant and bar called ghandi's opening at the top end of southgate street soon. Gloucester needs some more quality indian restaurants to compete with vinings and namaste, Hope this one is up to scratch. Does anyone know what happening to the buildings in the immediate vacinity ? Can't imagine they are going to be left like that ? Doesn't seem to be much going on in the pillar and lucy warehouse at the moment either. Thought that would have been full steam ahead and ready to go.

Pizza Express sounds like an excellent plan, hopefully the others on the list can be there too.

In other news, A new and larger version of Next is opening next week in Quedgley. It replaces the one that burnt down. They have invested more money this time to make the store bigger. They have added some square footage to get a specific homewares section.

Also, JJB Sports and Gym in St Oswalds Park is disappearing (along with all the rest in the UK) to become a DW Fitness. New signage should go up soon.

More stores to open in the Quays imminently

Four new stores are set to open their doors at the Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet.

Villeroy & Boch opened their doors at the weekend and the new store is already proving popular at the St Ann Way development.
The shop will be joined by Oneida, Klass Collection and All Things Chocolate in the next few weeks.
The new stores will bring the number of businesses trading at the area up to 54.

Specialising in ceramic and lifestyle products for kitchen, dining and bathroom, Villeroy & Boch joins an increasing number of stores selling homewares at the Quays, including The White Company, Denby, Le Creuset, Home Curtains & Bedding and Green & Pleasant.
Oneida, the world's largest cutlery company, will soon be opening and will offer a complete range of cutlery products under a range of internationally famous brand names.

Klass Collection will offer a selection of ladies clothing from sizes 10-22. Their collection will include glamorous and fashionable womenswear from tailored suits to chic daywear to stylish outerwear.
All Things Chocolate are independent purveyors of handmade chocolates and will sell their range of chocolate products as well as operating a coffee shop with outdoor seating area at the city venue.

Franco Muccini, centre director said: "The centre has a great mix of brands and these latest names compliment our existing stores.
"There is something for everyone here at the Quays and shoppers will be surprised to realise that we have added an additional 13 stores since we first opened our doors in May."
Coun Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said the new stores were good news for the city.

He said: "I think having a fresh wave of store openings will help to keep alive the excitement that the Quays opening originally generated.
"People want to go back time and time again to see what new names are on offer there.
"It is good news for the city as a whole, particularly as we head towards the crucial Christmas shopping period in December."
Taken from Citizen 15/9/09

Also in other news, a new bar is set to open shortly looking at the planning pages. Looks as though it will be going next to TNT on Eastgate Street. Called Liberty's Sports Bar, American themed. Nice to have another new venue on the cards.

Kwik Save Site : Public meeting to discuss apartment plans

Looks like the ex-Kwik Save Site is back on the agenda. Good news.

PLANS to change a city centre eyesore in to flats have been welcomed in Gloucester.
In 2007 Newland Homes submitted plans to change the former Kwik Save site in Northgate Street into apartments.
It shelved the plans as the housing market crashed but now the developer is keen to start again.
Barry Leach, chairman of the City Centre Community Partnership, is delighted that something may finally be done to the site.
He said: "We have had a long standing interest in this site and were becoming extremely concerned about its future use.
"The site is an eyesore at what is a gateway to the City and presents an excellent opportunity for a quality development."
An application was submitted by Newland Homes in 2007 and was fully supported by both the Partnership and the Kingsholm and Wotton Partnership at the time, but it was withdrawn.
Jeremy Drew, Newland's design director, said "We received planning permission in 2007 for 98 apartments, predominantly two-bed, and four retail units.
"We took some marketing advice and were told that there were already a lot of two-bed apartments being developed in the city, so after consulting with the two partnerships, we effectively changed to a more equal split between one and two-bed apartments."
But a feasibility study carried out by Newland at the time revealed it would not be wise to develop the apartments, given the state of the housing market at the time.
Now, Jeremy says they are ready to try again.
He said: "We want to make it happen. We don't just want to put it on the back-burner for ten years.
"We are hoping to steer towards a viable development in the next two to three years."
Barry said the CCCP was encouraged by Newland's eagerness to hold a meeting.
He said: "The fact that Newland Homes feel that a new application is now appropriate is not only an indication of their raised confidence in the housing market but also for us exciting that this site may at last be developed."
He confirmed that the CCCP had been approached by Mr Drew, and that a meeting had been set up for later in September.
Barry added: "Jeremy Drew has asked for this meeting at which he and his team can outline their plans.
"This will be a joint meeting with our colleagues from the Kingsholm and Wotton Neighbourhood Partnership.
"We look forward to seeing all interested residents at the meeting, expressing their opinions on the plans."
The meeting will be held in St Michael's Tower on September 29 from 7.30pm.

Lets hope so, if anyone gets further info on other openings prior to Christmas, please post here!

Pizza Express is due to open in December, job vacancies on Gumtree.

Nando's the latest to be confirmed!!!

The Quays effect has struck again, showing how Gloucester's newest shopping centre is continuing to flourish.
Another big name has signed up to come to the city's newest shopping centre – restaurant chain Nando's will open its doors before Christmas.
It will be the first of many confirmed restaurants opening soon as part of the Phase 2 development which will see the old Pillar and Lucy warehouse transformed and renovated.
Nando's is famed for its peri-peri chicken and is loved by celebrities including David Beckham and Oprah Winfrey.
Nelson Mandela is also said to be a fan and stocked his presidential office with Nando's sauces during his time in office.
Franco Muccini, Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet director said: "It is great news that Nando's are joining us at the designer outlet. This is just one of many new restaurants and bars we will be announcing over the next few months, with the construction of Phase 2 near completion."
Matthew Phillips, 27, of Linden, who was visiting the Quays yesterday said: "The Quays really needs somewhere to eat. Cheltenham has a Nando's so why can't Gloucester. Their flaming grilled chicken is to die for!"
The Quays' new hotel is also tasting success with most of its rooms booked up.
The £3.8m Travelodge, which sits above the Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet, opened in July.
Manager Carol Goode said most of the hotel's 96 rooms were completely booked.
She said: "We are delighted with the performance of Gloucester Travelodge.
"The hotel has been busy since it opened in July this year due to people staying with us whilst visiting friends and family, as well as enjoying a relaxing shopping weekend at Gloucester Quays."
Gloucester City Council leader Paul James said: "It's very encouraging to hear that the Travelodge is doing so well.
"We had a shortage of city centre hotels, and this has gone some of the way towards closing the gap. I hope its success will encourage others to invest in the area."
Gloucester Travelodge rooms offer mood lighting complemented by a red, blue and white colour scheme, a luxury Hypnos King size bed, en suite bathroom facilities, a flat screen TV with 18 free digital channels, free tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-fi.

ONE of Gloucester's hidden gems will be transformed from its "grubby" state into a sparkling tourist spot by next summer.
Eastgate Street's viewing canopy above Eastgate Chamber, which is home to some of the city's oldest surviving Roman ruins, will be modernised with a new glass walkway over the top of it.
The current structure was installed in 1980 after the ruins were discovered in the 1970s.
But recently the canopy has started to show its age.
Councillor Pam Tracey (Con, Westgate) said the chamber was letting the city down.
She said: "It is a massive eyesore. The idea was to put a glass walkway over it and it is time something is done, it will open up the entrance to Boots.
"We used to have the problems with the Goths hanging out on the chamber, now it looks grubby and it is part of the city's heritage. You have that lovely talking machine and it is covered in grease."
But Gloucester City Council, which looks after the ruins, said the Eastgate Chamber will now get the makeover its been waiting for.
Recently the site was used for a 'Marketing Gloucester' photoshoot with former Gloucester Rugby players Iain Balshaw and Anthony Allen.
Councillor Martyn White cabinet member for heritage and leisure said: "While the existing concrete and glass structure allows a limited view of the site, this new scheme will display the remains in a much more attractive and viewer-friendly way, similar to other historically important sites in major European cities."
A detailed survey of the Eastgate chamber has now been completed together with initial engineering assessments to test if the proposed level glass floor concept is feasible.
When in place, the new glass floor will allow anyone to cross freely over the site, while observing Gloucester's heritage below.
The new design also features an angled mirror, which will allow people a better view of what lies beneath.
Mr White added: "This is a complicated scheme but all the signs are that it can be done and I am looking forward to seeing the detailed design later in the autumn. We are aiming to be on site with this scheme in the new year with it completed by the spring."

Yes, another one off the list! Let's hope the rest come off in time especially the likes of Hugo Boss, Fatface, Diesel, DKNY, Ted Baker, Tommy Hilfiger, Firetrap etc.

Perhaps these are type of stores that will go in the row of units being finished adjacent to the Pillar & Square.

Bars, well interestingly I've heard Wetherspoons but even more interestingly a Whiskey Bar of some sort?!?

Also, I believe a couple of the restaurants to be independents which will be good too ;o)

The Professional Cookware Company - Another New Outlet Let

The Professional Cookware Company now known as ProCook is going into Gloucester Quays.

Job vacancies being advertised in Jobsite within the Citizen.

Interestingly again they were off the list and even more interestingly they closed a store in Cheltenham's Regent Arcade earlier this year!

Let's hope the next new name is a well known designer brand to accelerate a ripple effect for phase 2!?!?!? ;o))

Kinnarre - Third named Restaurant

Thought you may be interested that I've discovered that Kinnaree - Authentic Thai Restaurant, Cocktail Bar & Noodle Bar is going into the Quays. Taken three units along the waterfront of the new build, along from the Pillar & Lucy warehouse.

http://www.kinnaree.co.uk/

This looks great to me, glad it's not all chains so that Quays will also have some unique restaurants for Gloucestershire.

wow, what a coup for Gloucester! Only other restaurant in the Mailbox area of Birmingham, so its sure to be pretty nice!! Another coup for us here on the thread since the Citizen hasnt picked up on this at all, no mention of it, yet I have seen the plans for the units where the restaurant is due to go.

Things in the city are definately picking up pace!

Still states that a 4* hotel is keen on the Blackfriars development, and that the masterplan feedback has been completed. Fingers crossed for some movement on this soon!

Kings Quarter is due to have the developers chosen by December by the council, so some action on this front is also due soonish.

Would anybody be able to shed some light on what is happeneing at Meadow Park? Heavy plant and 1/6 of the pitch currently has been raised by around 10 feet. From another message board it may be Eammon McGurk converting the use to offices as I beleive he had planning approved around 3 years ago.

Parmjit, I know you have had some conversations with various parties on this. Do you have any ideas? There is a picture taken last Sunday now posted on the city open forum?

Any news would be greatly appreciated.

BTW great board and I do enjoy others posts on what is happening in Gloucester in terms of up and coming develpoments.
