Harold Shand would be mightly impressed, that's for sure.....

"Ladies and gentlemen. I'm not a politician. I'm a businessman with a sense of history. And I'm also a Londoner, and today is a day of great historical significance for London. Our country is not an island anymore. We're a leading European state. And I believe that this is the decade, in which London will become Europe's capital. Having cleared away the outdated, we've got mile after mile and acre after acre of land, for our future prosperity. No other city in the world... has got right in its centre, such an opportunity... for profitable progress. So it's important that the right people... mastermind the new London."

This is probably the building I’m most hopeful for in the area! Please, please, please live up to the renders... 🤞🏻

To be fair, Foster and Partners designed this so there's a good chance that the real thing will be like the renders, if not quite close.

Between 1985/86 when the DLR was under construction.

It was a bit like a Plaza back in '94 Potto. Gleaming glass and steel, little public squares. It was dead quiet then, there was only the newsagents that got blown up, the floating Chinese restaurant and another bar on a little boat that had a Dunkirk brass plaque that was moored opposite South Quay Station where they filmed the Spice Girls' movie. No other shops, completely deserted at weekends when I used to do overtime. It felt a bit..American round there then. Bit soulless, like SQ station was an outpost.

Spent many a weekend around there when I worked IT (80-90's). Most of the DR sites for the banks I worked for were around SQP and off of Marsh Wall. It was a desolate wind swept desert, with a few tourists wandering around lost off the DLR at weekends.

You have got to hope that they have in place plans to liven the built environment and provide some identity to the area for the hundreds of people who will live there eventually. Even if these apartments are purchased from abroad, a majority will be rented out.

London Arena was further south, near Crossharbour DLR station.

Yep, pretty sure it was on the Baltimore Wharf site.
