I personally would not mind seeing an RV park in this vicinity. But I don't like the idea of one being on the fairgrounds property.

RVs are definitely not the popular thing they used to be. Sales of them have increased, but you compare them to numbers in the 80's and 90's and the increase and demand is nothing. The cost is too much and it's not really an interest anymore. And besides, there is numerous RV parks in the area already. The only thing we would have heard about this RV park again is how residents were complaining about nose from the Fair or traffic.

And since it hasn't been posted, the board denied the proposal. I'll find the article, but the board shot it down pretty much for the same reasons we would. Here is a plan that went from not being perfect but acceptable for the site to something of nothing.

How about using some of the space to attract some of the Orlando theme parks to our local market? Would be great to see something besides BG here in Tampa.

Unless it is a water park, this would be a very small property. Aren't we talking about 160 acres? BG is near 350 acres, and Disney is located on thousands of acres. I guess is you want something super dense, but if a theme park were proposed, they could get more land, for a cheaper price likely 15-20 minutes away. And though water parks are popping up in lots of locations, theme parks are not necessarily. I believe if you proposed a mega theme park somewhere near the I 4 corridor, the competition even then would still be tough. Only so many people can go to Orlando, only so many people want to go to a theme park, and no matter how many new tourists you attract, just more advertisement for the mouse, which already locks in lucrative resort vacations. I'm happy with BG, and though attendance in general has remained stagnant, if in fact dropping, I believe this is destined for great success in the long run. International tourists come pouring into Orlando and just one visit at Busch, and alot may realize the excitement it presents. I hope I'm not drifting too far off, but the redevlopement of the University area is crucial. Whether demolishing the mall, or actually attempting to make it appealing, and the growth of USF as a major university, not only in size but prestige, it could make tourists not so worried about this "shady" area.

For the fairgrounds, something big in entertainment could open up the Bay area market. Finally entering Tampa and seeing the Casino, AMP, and this could have a defining image. Almost like the Idrive Mall.

Encouraging to know that some people is Tampa don't settle for "something is better than nothing."

Deflated directors of the Florida State Fair Authority shot down a developer's proposal Monday to build a hotel, an RV park and a field house at the fairgrounds, saying they expect more money and more "wow."

Just a bunch of excuses made by the developers too. Wait a few years, and I'm convinced there will be something that boasts some "wow" proposed.

Yeah, the connections to Putnam are undeniable.

Glad to see the right decision was made on this. In times past, that almost certainly wouldn't have been the case.

Was just wondering, does anyone know if there's ever been any update on this location or any other developments since this was shot down??
