23-story apartment tower planned to fill downtown Tampa block

Published: September 17, 2014 | Updated: September 18, 2014 at 06:46 AM
TAMPA — Downtown Tampa may soon have another major residential tower, as the owners of the long-dormant “Grant” block on North Franklin Street say they have a deal in the works to sell the whole city block to a buyer that plans a major redevelopment.

“We’ve kept our eye on the Tampa market for a while, and we feel Tampa is coming out of the recession extremely well,” said Conor McNally, chief development officer for Atlanta-based Carter & Associates, which has a contract to buy the site bordered by Florida Avenue, Cass Street, Franklin Street and Tyler Street. “That’s a good, stable economic base, and we see the momentum coming back into downtown.”

Can't wait to see what this one will look like. Hopefully it will have balconies.

The old club has a fresh, new paint job. Why paint if it's going to be torn down anyway?

Some recently uploaded elevations. It's tough to tell from the actual elevations, but the building itself will be L shaped (similar to The Martin at Meridian). Also not sure if it was mentioned before, but 10,766k of total retail.

L-shaped meaning the length of Tyler and Florida?

Got it. I emailed Doran Jason and asked if they have any renders yet (Kress and Grant)and if they had anymore plans for Tampa. They sent me the renders of the Grant building from about nine years ago (when it was to be a condo).

The Jasons aren't in charge of the new Grant Block project. It's Carter & Associates.

Same shape and orientation as the original tower proposed. Which is what we figured after seeing the site plan.

I never bothered to raise the issue to anyone, not like it would have mattered anyways.

I was just about to ask that. Someone posted it somewhere just recently, but I went though a bunch of threads and couldn't seem to find it.
