Overheard at this architects' office: "Folks, this is a blah design. I know, bright orange! Voila, great design!"

Not nearly a nice of a design. PRetty ugly actually. I am glad there are more residents and filling in a big gap. Just wish it was more colorful and some variation in the height. I hope the final design adds a little more variation and color than this rendering

Crescent's website is updated to say an August start date.

They've been moving through the building permit process the past few months.

City of Tampa leased the old jail site at Scott/Morgan from FDOT to build a new 335 space parking lot to help displace the one being lost to the Crescent Riverwalk project. It'll essentially be a giant Park-n-Ride attached to Marion Transit Center, with the In-Towner stop only a couple hundred feet away. It also serves as auxiliary parking for Perry Harvey Sr Park. Existing trees on the property will be kept.

Construction has already begun.

Disgusting, though I'm sure it'll be a RFP one day.

The property still belongs to FDOT. Replace RFP with TBX ramps.

You are dealing with idealists Brian. They want us to be as dense as NYC overnight and for every project. Reality and economics be damned.

I know. It's just that it always falls on Tampa and that sucks. Miami gets tail. Orlando gets rail. Tampa gets more parking lots!

Even with 'rail' we are going to need plenty of parking moving forward.

This desolate empty lot will make a great place to park and enjoy the downtown in 2 - 3 years. So much development is being spurred now, it is hard to predict the types of development we will have.

Parking is an issue and this will help tremendously until rail is an option.

This is more ham fisted government spending. Why is taxpayer money being spent to subsidize private parking?

Parking in downtown Tampa already consumes about 1/3 of all land downtown. Moreover, on typical work days, downtown Tampa parking is less than 2/3rds full. We don't have a supply problem, we have a utilization problem.

That is actually more of a legitimate issue than the land use issue. To answer, it shouldn't be.

I could understand if the city was parking its own workers.

Here's to hoping the city makes money on the deal.

New apartments by Tampa Riverwalk moving forward
Sep 27, 2016, 2:58pm EDT Updated Sep 27, 2016, 3:09pm EDT

A Charlotte, North Carolina developer has closed on a site near downtown Tampa's Riverwalk where it plans to build nearly 400 apartments.

Crescent Communities paid $8.1 million for a 5-acre site at 109 W. Fortune St. in a deal that closed Friday, according to a Hillsborough County deed filed Tuesday.

Crescent also closed on a $51.2 million loan from JPMorgan Chase on Friday, according to public records.

Full disclosure I have looked at this site before and I loved it for the exact type of product. There is an issue with having to build a parking deck for a nearby office build and some other funky stuff, but this is a great addition to downtown.
