I went through the catalogue of the Petersburg's lost churches (http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram.html).

The best ones (IMO):

Church of Sts Zachary and Elizabeth, 1897-99, architect Leon Benois, demolished in 1948

http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram4.html

"Saviour-on-Waters", 1910-11, architect Marian Peretyatkovich, demolished in 1932

Church of St Alexander Nevsky, 1891, architect Vladimir Kolyankovsky, lost during unspecified circumstances

http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram4.html

Church of Our Lady of Kazan, 1903-05, architect Valentin Demyanovsky, demolished in 1928

http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram5.html

Church of Our Lady of Kazan, 1881-85, architects Karl Vargeim and Ferdinand Miller, demolished in 1929

http://al-spbphoto.narod.ru/Hram/nohram3.html

Church of the Intercession of the Theotokos, 1900-01, architect Dmitry Ryabov, hit by a nazi bomb during the siege of Leningrad

Magnificent - what a loss

Do you know if there are any plans to rebuild? It would be a tremendous task.

No chance. There was a possibility about 8 years ago when a soviet public baths building on its place was demolished. But it was replaced by a new office building instead. Not so ugly one, to speak frankly, but still...
Here it is, by the way:

That's a shame.

But there are certainly many magnificent churches in Russia that are in excellent condition.

There are indeed. But it's still a small part of what used to be. And there are very many ruined or half-ruined churches in countryside and small towns with a very slight chance to be revived in close future.
