I remember During Last DMK period they planned Both IBT & Trade Center at Panjapur. Mr.Stalin also visited the site.
after a long time Good to see something progressing about Trade center which is one of the long pending demand.

About IBT again Panjappur is the perfect place . Semi ring road – Jeeyapuram to Assur Meeting Point is perfectly matching at Panjapur only.
Hope they will implement the same

Banana cultivation to be mechanised

Quote:
NRCB signs MoU with Kongunadu College of Engineering

The National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) in Tiruchi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kongunadu College of Engineering and Technology (KNCET), a private engineering college located at the banana-growing belt of Thottiyam in the district, to take up research projects to promote mechanisation in banana cultivation.

With India being the largest producer of banana with a production of 30 million tonnes, the NRCB has been taking various initiatives to promote banana cultivation and trade covering the entire gamut of banana supply chain in India starting from farm level production to post-harvest value addition and export.

However, India’s share in the world trade in banana is negligible. The signing of the MoU was part of the centre’s attempts to promote better cultivation practices in banana.

The agreement focuses on developing bio-sensors and imaging technology for pest detection, portable cable car conveyor system for the transportation of harvested bunches and to promote green technology through utilisation of solar power and other fields. The agreement also supports enlisting the students for internship and post graduate research programmes at NRCB.

According to scientists at NRCB, the college students with technical inputs from the centre have already developed a prototype of a conveyor system to transport harvested banana bunches in the field. However, it required certain improvements which would be taken up under the initiative.

Similarly, research will be taken up on bringing about certain improvements in solar dryers besides developing implements for paring banana suckers and other cultivation processes.

S. Uma, Director, NRCB, and PSK R. Periyasamy, Chairman, KNCET, signed the agreement on Wednesday. “We hope that the outcome of research initiatives will enhance farmers’ income,” Dr.Uma said.

Speaking on the occasion, Ezhilan, Chief Executive Officer, Greeners Agro Products India Pvt Ltd., elaborated on the way forward in export of banana using mechanisation in handling with the development of cable car conveyor, scientific post-harvest methods and packaging.

SPV to be Launched or Trichy Trade and Convention centre at Rs 11 Crores in Panchapur

Quote:
It will entail an investment of ₹11 crore with the land cost being put at ₹1.63 crore

A cherished dream of the local industry to have a trade centre in the city could soon become a reality. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) is to be floated soon for establishing the trade centre.

A site has been identified at Panchapur, in the outskirts of the city, off the Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway.

The trade centre would be established under public-private partnership mode and the project will be executed through the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation in association the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA).

“We have identified 9.42 acres of government poromboke land at Panchapur, which is just about five km from the Central Bus Stand and seven km from the airport, for the trade centre.

The SPV will be floated soon,” N. Kanagasabapathy, president, TIDITSSIA, told The Hindu.

The State government, in its 2017-18 budget, had announced that 50% grant, subject to a maximum of ₹5 crore, would be extended to MSME associations for establishing trade facilitation centres in Tiruchi, Madurai and Salem.

The trade centre in Tiruchi will entail an investment of ₹11 crore with the land cost being put at ₹1.63 crore, besides the building cost of ₹4.06 crore and rest would be spent on related development and infrastructure works.

As per a Government order, the land cost would have to be borne by the SPV, which would also bear the operation and maintenance cost of the centre.

The SIDCO will facilitate the project implementation through a single window committee.

The state-of-the-art trade centres would house exhibition and convention halls with communication facilities and office space to be rented out to members of the MSME associations or individual units for displaying their products and hold trade-related discussions.

Establishment of a trade centre on the lines of those in Chennai and Coimbatore has been a long pending demand of the industry.

Industry representatives have been complaining over the absence of a common infrastructure to showcase the potential and market the products of the city and the region. “The trade centre will be a boon to the industry, especially the MSMEs.

We can host exhibitions and other marketing events at the centre,”said Mr. Kanagasabapathy pointing out that the trade centres in Chennai and Coimbatore are heavily booked for months in advance.

He indicated that the work on establishment of the trade centre could begin by March after the land transfer and other processes.

BHEL starts execution of 4GW Yadadri power project in Telangana, India at acost of Rs 20,000 Crores

Quote:
.

Power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has commenced the execution of Rs204bn ($3.1bn) Yadadri supercritical thermal power project in the Indian state of Telangana.

Located at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district, the Yadadri thermal power station will be owned by state utility Telangana State Power Generation (TSGENCO) and will comprise five units, each with installed capacity of 800MW.

The execution of the 4,000MW Yadadri supercritical TPP by Bhel follows the issuance of revised letter of intent (LoI) by TSGENCO.

TSGENCO awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Bhel for the Yadadri project in 2015.

Under the contract, Bhel is responsible for design, engineer, manufacture, supply, construct, erect, test and commission the Yadadri project.

Bhel will manufacture the key equipment for the project at its facilities in Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Ranipet, Bangalore and Jhansi.

The company has so far commissioned 86% of the coal-based power generation capacity in Telangana.

It said that the order for Yadadri TPP is the single-largest order for the firm as well as the highest value order ever placed in the India power sector.

The project, which will comply with the revised emission regulations, has already secured environmental approval by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

TSGENCO earlier awarded contracts to Bhel to build 800MW supercritical thermal power plant at Kothagudem as well as 4x270MW Bhadradari power plant in Khammam, Telangana.

CRPF approves Trichy Assault Rifle after tests

The Ordnance Factory in Tiruchirapalli. File | Photo Credit: The Hindu

Quote:
Ordnance Factory Tiruchi (OFT) has developed the design

The Trichy Assault Rifle (TAF) designed in-house at Ordnance Factory, Tiruchi (OFT), and developed to match specifications of AK47 has passed the quality test for use by paramilitary forces, sources in the OFT said here on Friday.

The approval of the weapon by the CRPF in New Delhi has brought immense relief to OFT employees.

Acceptance of TAF by paramilitary and military forces has been a long-pending demand of the employee unions who were prepared to rectify the shortcomings pointed out by the Army.

The first lot of TAF was handed over to the Chhattisgarh police earlier this year. Thereafter, OFT received orders for AK-47 from police departments from a few States that were fighting insurgency, and production and assembly lines were established for mass production.

However, employee unions were keen on having a steady stream of supply of the weapon to CRPF and other elite forces, including CISF and BSF.

Procurement problems

It was because the State governments that had procured the weapon for their police forces had problems with making payments, according to C. Srikumar, general secretary, All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF).

Approval of the weapon by paramilitary forces will, in all probability, pave the way for its supply to the Army as well, Mr. Srikumar pointed out.

Approval of TAF is a shot in the arm for the employee unions that had been expressing concern over the decline in manpower at the OFT. Manpower had declined to around 2,000 from about 3,500 10 years ago, V.Balachandran, national executive member of the AIDEF, said.

The development comes in the backdrop of AIDEF and two other employee unions: INDWF and BPMS which together represent the cause of four lakh employees in 41 ordnance factories in the country, opposing import of AK-47 rifle, and assailing the Centre's move for introduction of public-private-partnership model.

The OFT had to upgrade its product offerings a few years ago in the wake of the shift of Army and Central armed paramilitary forces towards 7.62 mm calibre rifles with automatic firing, so as to incapacitate and kill the enemy in counter-insurgency operations with higher probability. The TAF was manufactured in three variants — fixed butt, side foldable butt and under folding.

It can be fired in single shot, automatic and burst fire mode.

In automatic mode, it fires 600 rounds per minute, as per the technical specification.

Approval of the weapon by paramilitary forces will, in all probability, pave the way for its supply to the Army as well

Product quality needs to be established at design stage’

Quote:
Quality Month celebration begins in BHEL

The quality of a product must be established during the design phase and achieved through proper control during manufacturing rather than at the inspection and testing of final product stages, R Rajamanohar, Executive Director, BHEL Tiruchi, said on Wednesday.

Consistency in product quality was vital in today’s business environment, he said, addressing a gathering of product and functional heads, representatives of participating unions, engineers and officers’ association, executives’ association and other senior officials, after inaugurating the Quality Month celebration.

Mr. Rajamanohar said the main purpose of the exercise was to raise the level of awareness across the organisation, and encourage development of individuals thereby ensuring prosperity for the organisation.

Mr. Rajamanohar, who is also the Executive Director of Power Plant Piping Unit Thirumayam and Piping Centre, Chennai, said establishment and adherence to systems determines betterment of results and delivering products and services with the same level of consistency and reliability.

Ensuring customer satisfaction through consistently delivering quality products in time was the only way to survive in the present competitive business environment, he said.

Mr. Rajamanohar called upon all employees to re-dedicate themselves to maintain and achieve excellence in quality. Quality pledges were administered to the employees on the occasion. A message from Atul Sobti, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL for the Quality Month was read out by R. Muthusamy, General Manager, Maintenance and Services. A ceremonial lamp was lit by the senior most employee of BHEL Tiruchi, L. Arokiaraj, General Technician, Boiler Production, to mark the start of the Quality Month.

Over 47 training and lecture programmes have been planned.

OfBusiness helping SMEs in India including Trichy to get financial support

Quote:
OfBusiness was incorporated in August 2015 with a Seed/ Series A funding of $ 5 million from Matrix and few angels. Their focus since start has been on traditional sectors as manufacturing and infrastructure which are behemoth sectors core to the economy, says Piyush Upadhyay, Head – Marketing and Growth, OfBusiness in conversation with Elets News Network (ENN).

Give us an overview of OfBusiness.

Designed for the Indian SMEs, OfBusiness is a first-of-its-kind technology-driven SME financing platform with a product fulfilment engine. OfBusiness brings SMEs further into the financial mainstream by providing “purchase financing” of raw materials, which is 60-70 per cent of the SME’s total cost. OfBusiness is beneficial to SMEs in two ways –

1) it brings institutional credit (both secured and unsecured) to SMEs, which hitherto gets financed by local distributors and financiers at a much higher cost at 2%+ per month and,

ii) it aggregates several raw materials, and passes most of the aggregation benefits (like volume discounts from manufacturers to the SME.

OfBusiness was incorporated in August 2015 with a Seed/ Series A funding of $5 Million from Matrix and few angels. Series B of around $ 11 million with Zodius and Matrix happened in Nov 2016. All the founders being on the right side of 30s, with significant prior experience, united to build something meaningful in the B2B space. As each of us had some experience to the SME world, we understood the over-dependence of the SME on the local dealer for both material and credit. Our focus since start has been on traditional sectors as manufacturing and infrastructure which are behemoth sectors core to the economy and where-in many members of the founding team had hands-on experience.

Name some of the SMEs your company is associated with and how you are helping them?

OfBusiness serves customers across Manufacturing (auto, capital goods, power, small machinery, solar, etc.) and Infrastructure services. With focus on SMEs in the core sectors of the economy, OfBusiness goes deep into a cluster to build tailored financial products to assist SMEs with growth and cost savings. Some examples include the following

Faridabad Cluster: Helping auto-oriented fabrication and machining SMEs like Yuva, Shakti auto components and Shree Anand for financing of and bringing down the cost of raw material purchases like Aluminum and Steel.

Trichy Cluster: Helping the BHEL Trichy vendor base (e.g., Rockfort, Mantek and Bhuvneshwari) engaged in heavy material fabrication in exploring alternate venues for structural procurement like Raipur to help in better availability and financing the working capital finance for them
.
Bhiwadi Cluster: Helping capital goods manufacturers (e.g., Himskaf and Skanda) procure newer orders from blue chip anchors by financing their raw material and consumables purchases.

Ghaziabad Cluster: Helping central agency (e.g., NHAI and NBCC) contractors like Kashyapi and Anurag to discover raw material vendors in newer states of operation (Kerala and MP respectively) while financing them as well.

How do you acquire raw materials for SMEs at the best price?

OfBusiness aggregates several raw materials and places orders directly on manufacturers. Aggregating volumes and disintermediation generates benefits (like volume discounts from manufacturers), bulk of which are passed by OfBusiness to its SMEs.

On receiving an RFQ from an SME which has a credit limit, OfBusiness sends across the request to multiple suppliers matching the requirement. The suppliers bid on its bidding engine to get the best price for the SME. Going deep into a cluster coupled with the bidding approach enables OfBusiness to provide the right material, at the best price within the promised time. By providing “purchase financing”, OfBusiness ensures rotation and on-demand use of the credit line ensuring higher quality of its book.
