Marikina City

Hi mga kababayan!! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

I hope this is not spam, but as far as I know, this is great information.

Our city government has been working hard to produce an annual event--
a month's long celebration of Christmas beside the famous Marikina River.

Sikat na diyan yung mga tiangge at napakaraming food booths,
tsaka yung perya, tska yung mahabang lineup of events.
Pero, di ako gaanong sigurado kung alam ng lahat na merong
yearly barangay (architecture and design ) competition - (now on it's 3rd year).
Sobrang exciting.

The first competition's theme was Asian-inspired, hence,
different temples as well as famous lifesize replicas of Asian landmarks dotted the riverbank.

The theme for its second run: Funtasia 2005. Almost all of the entries were castles.
Ranging from Ibong Adarna to Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings to Rapunzel; they were indeed amazing.

This year.... I'm not really sure [mukhang carousels??].

I am sharing this because this is a great opportunity for taking photos!
[Wala kasi akong camera, at feeling ko, andaming magagandang makikita dun XP]

Iyon lang. Sana pumunta kayo. Hindi kayo magsisisi.
P.S. This is a greeat family outing.

Here are some useful pics.

VENUE. (yeah... VERY near the construction of SM MARIKINA... photo op uli!!)

link: (with landmarks) >> http://wikimapia.org/#y=14626586&x=1...2&z=16&l=0&m=a

This year's program.

Pictures from the Asian Themed competition.

Of course the real thing is better --may sounds, may videos, at may presentations.

pics taken from here: http://www.marikina.gov.ph/mrknaforu...thread=69#1446

Some more...
THis one... this one's from Last year's competition... The fantasy-themed one.

To riverboy, (apparently you took almost all of the photos), thanks so much, in case you're reading this.

I hope you guys like them. See you at the riverpark!

PS. I moved this thread into this category, I think it's more appropriate here.

paul, very true. Most of the exhibits nga ay di lang visual ang appeal. Yung iba, napapasukan din, yung iba may show pa sa loob. Kung meron pang ibang similar place/celebration sa philippines, di ko sure... first in Metro Manila?

Eric ahmm, yung festival mismo, walang specific date, since kalat yung events hanggang January. Siguro yung 'grandest' event ay sa concert ni Gary V. Just check the schedule sa itaas, tas tignan mo na lang kung aling event yung gusto mong icheck-out. (Also check out the famous Gay Pageant..di ko lang sure kung kelan)

I suggest, punta ka after Dec1, kasi dun raw bubuksan yung barangay exhibit.

Maganda ring pumunta ng hapon, para konti pa lang yung tao.. Para maganda mamasyal sa tabing ilog. Dun ka na rin magpagabi, magsisibukasan na yung food stalls at tiangge.

By the way, I just got news na carousels ang theme ng barangay competition ngayon.

So BRING your KIDS!!!
Imagine riding 16 carousels in one night. HAHA.. nakakahilo yun, pero mukhang enjoy.

And oh, expect a big number of people to come, so ingatan lang ang anak, baka mawala...

Along the Marikina River Park It's only a walk from home. Ive been there 2 years ago before I moved back to NY. I remembered visiting the miniature replicas of monuments or famous landmarks from other countries. The park can get really crowded from locals and tourists alike.

wow!!! that's great to hear.

I have never attended a Rehiyon-Rehiyon event; but what I hear is that in that event, each region in the Philippines will showcase their feasts, talents, parades etc... I'm excited about it, Yes, we shall enjoy your presentation, lewd.

To eric, I think if you will take pics, you should go to this event. Maybe it's like all the fiestas rolled into one night.

i did a writeup about the dinagyang performing in Marikina here

its going to be the tribu atub-atub wholl be performing here in manila. i saw them perform last january in iloilo, and they were so amazing.

this same group has brought fame and honor to dinagyang when they won the grand prize in Aliwan Fiesta 2004

Marikina Shoe Expo

For those who don't know, Marikina Shoe Expo is not in Marikina but in Cubao. It was originally an outdoor outlet filled with shops that specialized in selling shoes that were made in Marikina.

But of today, popular art galleries and trendy stores are replacing the shoe outlets. Instead of shoes, you'll mostly find vintage goods, pop / contemporary paintings, collectible figures etc.

Also, Bellinis, one of the finest Italian restaurants in the city can also be found here.

Pictures of Marikina Shoe Expo anyone!
Marikina Shoe Expo used to sell good brands of shoes and I used to buy mine there. My favorite brands were Otto, bandolino, and timberland. So sad for the shoe industry's struggle. Hope the Marikina Shoe Expo returns to selling quality Pinoy made shoes.

I'll post pics tom. I only took one photo of it.

Honestly there are several shoe stores operating in this area but there are more and more art galleries and pop culture stores being opened. It's slowly changing. If not the Shoe Expo, where else can they put them up.

Unfortunately for me who has lived in Metro Manila for over 4 years already, i don't have any idea where is Marikina Shoe expo in Cubao. I thought it's somewhere in Marikina.I remember going to Marikina back when i was in college expecting to find stores who sell Filipino-made shoes. I found hills and i got lost.

They just had their yard sale everything must go last week, i think idedemolish na sila soon to give way for Manhattan Garden towers... closed na yung kalahati ng mga stalls after nung sale. Closed for good!

They should take the word "shoe" out since it isn't dominated/monopolized by the shoe industry anymore.

Note that Marikina Shoe Expo is NOT in Marikina. It's in Cubao, Quezon City
