As the city is totally incompetent to offer any solution for the downtown, another private developer announced its intention to build a new transporation system - in this case, it would be the light-rail (tram), connecting New Lido development area on the right bank of Danube to the downtown.

DOWNTOWN TRAM PROPOSED BY JTRE

Quote:
Just recently, HB Reavis presented its idea of the partial solution of the possible traffic problems in the new Bratislava downtown which includes the construction of elevated electrical line, probably monorail or cable-car, connecting the right and left bank of Danube where the new developments such as Stanica Nivy are located. Now another large developer, J&T Real Estate, announced its intention to build an extension of the tramway system. This extension would start in Nové Lido and continue via the Old bridge to Eurovea where a massive development is planned, to the borough of Ružinov. According to Peter Korbačka from J&T Real Estate, the company is giving a public commitment that it will build a tramline in Nové Lido and contribute to the construction of the following parts of the tramway track. New track will allow the users from wider region to get the high-capacity ecological traffic solution and it will create possibilities to extend the system to the other parts of the city.

Project of JTRE is in a slight contradiction with the project of HB Reavis and altough being more rational, it does not solve the problem with the connection of Stanica Nivy and coach station which will, objectively, influence the area more than other developments. It is not saying anything about the coordination with City of Bratislava as well. It is the voice of City of Bratislava which is missing in the whole debate and that might be even the cause of this debate. Both project by the developers are predominantly serving to their commercial purposes, not to the public interest. Now it is necessary to find the solution which will help to the general public in the first place and it should be the city officials who will play a proactive leading role in the discussions about the future of Bratislava downtown and ways how to improve the quality of life in the Capital.
